I feel a little hostility toward STL.

Jackson County tri is the only KC tri that I have done...

i feel obligated to do SMP mainly because it was my first horrible experience and yet I still loved every second of it. the only other one that I have done locally is heritage park. I am adding topeka tinman, midwest mayhem, midwest meltdown, and jackson county all this year in an effort to do more races.

pigman was a close second in my voting though, even though it is in a faraway land called iowa.

I had never biked since I was almost 12 or 13 years old. I had just gotten a bike the week of the race and didn't even take it out for a test spin. shawnee mission's hills did not treat me well.

I can't really vote for a favorite yet, either. I only did the women's tri and Jackson County last year. But they were both a ton of fun! I'm planning on doing many of the local tris this year (except for SMP probably) so maybe I should vote for my favorite at the end of the year.

It's funny- so many people I've talked to say SMP is their favorite. Bunch of masochists....

I've only done Topeka and Shawnee Mission, but Topeka was awesome. I'd highly recommend it for a beginner race.

I'm adding Jackson County this year.

Salty dog is a great one, its in a pool and theres 5 laps on the bike so spectators can see you over and over.  Plus its not that long, I always like that in a triathlon.

I did KC Women's Tri last season and it was top-notch. The same folks put on Flint Hills, which I was a spectator at last year. Will let you know my opinion of it once June 3rd rolls around.

I did the Midwest Meltdown last year - enjoyed it.

Challenging course (for me anyway) - it was quite hilly and the day we did it the morning started with it raining cats and dogs!

I fully planned on doing the race again this year until I injured my foot - next year - I'm there!

Mudwater is by far my favorite.  It's flat & fast.  A bonus is that it is close to home.  For being a new tri, 07 was second year, it is a first rate event.  It will only get bigger!!

Question for those who liked Mayhem so much... what did you like about it?

I did it for the first time this year and have to say it was the worst out of the 6 tri's I've done. I guess if you like a really small race it could be appealing, but there were so many other downsides I doubt I'll consider it again. Maybe I missed the good stuff???

I didn't get tp participate in Jackson County but I got to watch this year and it seemed like a great race. A few small logistics issues. The tinman could be a good one but I was very unhappy with the way they delt with a timing mat issue and in handing out awards.

Seeing as how I only got to do two tri's this year, I'd vote for Jackson County. Mayhem is a great race, but killer with the hill work.
