  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 04m 42s
Comments:

Took too long in T1. Had trouble getting into my cycling jersey...felt frantic, and couldn't seem to get my arms in the sleeveless arm holes. Finally just put my head through and headed out. By 1st mile I had it on properly. Next time I'll be a little more calm with it.
Bike
  • 30m 12s

Comments:

Good times! Boy those tri bikes are fast. I'm on a road bike without any aerobars....for now.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

T2 felt good. Quick transition out of helmet/shoes and into running shoes.
Run
  • 30m 46s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Took it pretty slow out of T2 just to get my legs loose. Last half of run I really picked it up quite a bit. Strong finish...felt great!

Event comments:

Had an absolute blast! Up until now, I have only competed running races. This was by FAR, the most fun.

Pace is a bit off. The actual run portion of this race was less than 4 miles. I believe the 4 mile designation accounts partly for our run from the water, up the beach, and into T1. I think the actual run segment was more like 3.5 miles. I'd like to know exactly if anyone has this info.
Course: Paved trail for the two miles out, then up a nice flight of stairs onto the top of Ft. DeSoto, down the other set of stairs. Rest of run course was in moderately packed sand.

Great job! I'm glad you enjoyed your first tri!

In the future, you should just wear a tri top under your wetsuit (or for the swim if you aren't wearing a wetsuit) to avoid having to put on any clothes in T1.

Keep up the good work. Good luck with the rest of your season!

Great job! First race done---What's up next?

T1 is always tough. I usually put on a jersey there too, but you can see where a one piece tri-suit would come in handy.

Hey thanks. Yeah, next time I'll consider a tri top for the swim. Or just learn how to put on my jersey without freaking out.

Thank you so much. Don't think I'll be as nervous for Mad Beach next month. You gonna be out there?

Well the tri-suit sure makes sense...but I think I'm still partial to the two-piece. I just need to practice putting it on without it getting all twisted up. Seems simple enough. Next up is the Madeira Beach Triathlon, May 20th. Can't wait.

congrats on your first tri. you killed it. I would not worry too much about transitions; it is the easiest part of the race to "train" for. good luck w/ your 2nd tri in may!

Thanks for the congrats. I'm not too worried about the transitions for future races. Now that I've got one under my belt, I know what to expect in the future. Just gotta stay focused and do one thing at a time. I think I was a bit frantic during T1.

Very nice race man. It was my first Tri as well. You smoked me, but I was happy just to finish.

I loved the run through the fort, it was fun and I didn't know we were going to do that. Also the ride along the island was beautiful with the water and palm trees. Although I wasn't happy with the hike from the swim to T1 either. Not cool.

Wish I had known you were there, I would had said hello.

Hey, congrats to you too. The Fort was very cool. Certainley a unique touch I don't think you'll find in too many other events. I wanted to pop a couple quarters in the viewer thingys and take in the view from the top of the fort. Probably wise I just kept going Loved the bike ride...beautiful course. I usually just go to Ft. DeSoto to hang out on the beach. It was great actually competing out there. Hah, yeah, the run from the water up into T1 was pretty long. But I think they counted that distance as part of the 4 mile run. I'm pretty sure the actual run segment of the race was a bit less than 4 miles. Congrats again on your first as well. You gonna be at Madeira Beach in May?

Thanks!!! I am hooked. Can't wait for Mad Beach next month. I'm gonna be jealous of everyone out at Ft. DeSoto this weekend. I might still go out just to jockstrap it...maybe meet some fellow BTers. I'm definately going out there with a friend on Saturday. She needs to rack her bike, so we're gonna go do that and hang for a while...check out all the festivities. I hear St. A is pretty cool. I'll be there next year for sure.
