Comments: 1st km I was cruising, felt pretty good, thought I would be on a 4:15 pace, looked at my watch, 3:49??? Oh no, better dial it back a bit, still felt good, although when I was through 4km as fast as I was I started to wonder if I could hold this pace. This course is known as a tough course and I underestimated it last year and blew up in the final 3 km and I did not want that to happen again. My goal was to break 42:30 and I wanted to make sure this happened, so I dialed it back just a bit through the 5th and 6th km. Man was I glad I did that as hitting the hill on the 8th km I blew by tons of people who were struggling up it. I felt great at that point and expected I was on pace to hit maybe 42:15, came through the 9th km and looked at my watch and saw 37:30. I thought holy crap this could be a PB on the toughest 10km course in the race series!!! It gave me just enough motivation to cruise my last km in 4:01 and finish in 41:31 breaking my 10km PB by exactly 10 seconds!!! Awesome. What would you do differently?: Not mush, I thought I maybe went out too hard, but it worked out well, and I can't complain. Post race
Warm down: Easy 10 minute jog and stretch with my friend and then grabbed some food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing, that was my fastest 10km ever. Event comments: Another good race put on by Vira. Good stuff. Last updated: 2007-04-15 12:00 AM
