We did it! We finished! My 64 year old dad finished 2 in his age category. My husband finished 14 in the mens catagory and I finish 37 in the womens. I have to admit the water was a brand new experience for all of us. We are all "swimmers" but open water is it's own beast.
1. How do you train for something like that?
2. Do they ever post transition and category times for My First Tri's?
I would love to know how long I was "fighting" the water, or if the length was all in my head!
I plan a face to face meeting with the Masters coach at the club on Monday!!!!!
3. Were the lengths of the swim and bike at the event accurate?
The bike seemed longer and someone on another thread said the swim was longer.
I have to say thank you to all of you who guided us and encouraged us through "Our First Tri." You Were Awesome!

I see no reason they shouldn't post your split times to get all of your detailed times.  I am surprised it didn't come up with the others.  If you don't see it by Monday, I might email them.

My bike registered 10.22 for the bike, including a very short run to and from the bike rack (I was only about 10 racks back from the start), so I think the bike was a little long, but not by much at all.

Great job on your race.  You are a triathlete now!

The bike splits were certainly out of wack for the sprint. For example Tyler Johnson won the sprint and the oly the next day. For the sprint he's got a 23.5 mph avg, for the oly the next day, riding twice as far and under windy conditins he's got a 25+ mph avg.

I did both the sprint and oly and the mph avg posted reflect similar results. No way I rode faster on Sunday than on Saturday. At any rate it was fun except the cold swim.

And they're up.

Thanks for the link. I had actually seen those, I am looking for the "My First Tri" ones. Do they usually post those?

Oops.  Copied the wrong link.

Thank you so much. I honestly thought I was in the water for a heck of a lot more time then I actually was. Maybe, I can pull myself out of the mental slump I'm in about open water swimming. I thought I was going to die!

Hey, why not post up your results in a RACE REPORT! That way, you can log the details and everyone can read it in the race reports section?

Open water swimming... there are groups who do OWS clinics. Go to one. It will help. To get better at it, you have to go do it. It's a different beast. Also, some of the tri clubs host OWS practices.

Good luck. It only gets better from here!
