Precipitation
Total Time = 26m 59s
Overall Rank = 58/124
Age Group = 50-59 Female
Age Group Rank = 2/6
Pre-race routine:

I got up at 5:00 am so I could get the body and bones moving. Showered and ate oatmeal/banana. Did a short run through my neighborhood before leaving the house.
Event warmup:

About 400 meter slow jog. Hit the restroom ... yeah, actual restrooms instead of port-a-potties ... highlight of the day!
Run
  • 26m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I've been training with TNT for about 8 weeks and I was anxious to see if those track workouts would pay off on the course. Woohoo. Thank you Charley Perez because the speed intervals and butt kickers and striders and bounding like a kangaroo got me under a 9 minute mile. This wasn't my personal best but it was my fastest 5K in Colorado. I'm really happy with my time.

That said, I have to mention that I was more fatigued than usual going into the race. I did a challenging bike climb the day before and my legs were feeling it. My body hung in there but I really had to push to make it happen.

This time last year I was preparing for my first ever 5K and it was a major event for me. I'm excited to be running longer distances now but it made this one feel more like a training run. I practiced pacing, hydrating, and not holding back. It was by no means easy.

2/6 Female 50-59
15/66 Female
58/124 Overall

First place Female 50-59 came in 18 seconds in front of me ... I'm slowly catching those old broads who keep beating me!
What would you do differently?:

Nada ... you run the race you're given.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and chatted with some of the TNT runners. One bite of bagel and half banana. Met Zev (z-dog).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A little fatigue but it is what it is.

Event comments:

I think this is the 2nd year for this race. It's small and not well known but Katie did one heck of a job on it. Lots of post race giveaways. I won a 3 month membership to Denver Athletic Club. Miles were well marked, events were on time, and she was at the finish line calling our names as we came through the chute. Proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Nice job on the race - that's a great time! Glad that the training is paying off - track workouts can be a pain, but they really do wonders to increase speed

Way to Go!  You're speedy, especially considering the previous day's ride!  And that picture you posted with Michellie Jones still makes me smile.  You both have great grins.

Sweet Race!!

Your AG is very competitive....15/66 of all women is impressive.

You have done amazing things in the last year and I know will do many more in the coming months.

Sub 9's is awesome....those TnT workouts and your dedication is paying off.
