Subject: Where to bike in Denver?

Anyone have any good trails to suggest to me?  I remember many many years ago I rode the one that goes along by Speer and I remember that being a pretty fun ride.  Of course I was 12 then...lol  So where does a beginner bicyclist go for a good ride?  Nothing too long....10-15 miles maybe, but not more than that, at least to start out.  Also, do the trails tend to fill up on the weekends?  That's mainly when I'm hoping to ride, but maybe fridays if the weekends are too crazy.  I'm willing to do some driving...but nothing too huge.

Thanks in advance!

Ride the Cherry Creek Trail. On weekends the trail does get busy, but not too bad.

I'd go to any bike shop and get the Denver Bike Touring Club map.

Good Luck.

Where does the Cherry Creek trail start?

I'll look for that map as well.  Thanks!

Depends on where you live.  Therre are trails throughout the entire metro area.  Let me know and I can give you some ideas.   A lot of people ride the Cherry Creek Trail and the South Platte trail.  Also, there is the C470 trail, Cherry Creek Resivoir and ChatField Res.  Also they put a bike lane up Deer Creek Canyon last year.

You can actually put in a ride around the whole metro area (about 70 miles) safely.

You can get just about anywhere.  Let me know where you live and I can help.

I will second Z-dog's recommendation to get the Denver Bike Touring Club's map, which you should be able to find at most cycling shops. Barnes & Noble also has a decent book that describes in detail just about all of the the bike paths in the area.

The bike paths will definitely be busier on the weekends, but not so bad that I would avoid them.

From DU, you can cross over I-25 at downing and then ride to Washington Park.  From there you go to the north side of the park and there you can ride to Speer.  You can jump on the trail just east on speer.  From there you can head west to Confluence Park and south on the south platte trail or east and eventually end up at Cherry Creek Res.

PM Gearwhore.  I think he lives over in that area.  You might also see if Campus Cycles has an organized rides.
