It is that time of the year again. Not as exciting for me as last year when the Colts drafted Addai, but it should be interesting to see what they do to fill all the holes on defense. I think they need a little help at QB, that Peyton Manning guy is just not cut out for the NFL.

Quick Hits:
-JaMarcus is going to be OK, but no savior of the Raiders.
-Quinn will be a bust
-Best picks of the 1st round will be the teams that get Jarvis Moss and Patrick Willis

Anyone else interested in the draft?

My Patriots have two picks to shore up linebacker and the secondary. I'm pretty excited about their prospects for next year.

Yeah, I'm watching, as you would expect. Certainly from the Saints perspective, although we pick so far down we may not be able to fill a specific need. Also watching to see where our LSU boys go, not just Jamarcus but LaRon Landry, Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis, all of whom could go in the first two rounds.

Any chance the Raiders go with Calvin Johnson (Randy Moss with a GOOD attitude) rather than JaMarcus? Even Jesus Christ (position unknown) would not be enough to save the Raiders.

Disappointing (I know, I'm used to it) from the Bears' perspective.  Briggs is a really good player we seem destined to lose and nothing in the draft is going to help us this year.  OTOH the Bears have been good recently with rounds 2-5.  Maybe our best hope would lie in making the trade with Washington for the 6th pick and then trading out of that pick to get more picks later on.  If they trade Briggs and then keep the 6th pick they'll be stuck paying a big signing bonus to an unproven rookie when they should have just given that extra money to Briggs in the first place.

Add all of this to no free agent signings and things are not looking good for next year.  I'll have to hope the Cubs have a good year.  Whoops!

GO BULLS!!!

I love the draft.  Pre-draft discussions facinate me.  So much speculation.  It was interesting...today on Sirius NFL Radio they were laying out the various scenarios Detroit could face with the #2 pick, and how so many assumptions about picks 1-10 are thrown out the window if the Raiders actually take Calvin Johnson.

Beloved Packers in rumor central regarding the Chiefs Larry Johnson (for a 1st and 4th) and of course, the continued Randy Moss trade rumors.  I don't know how I feel about either.  Emotionally both sound awesome.  Logically there's some holes with both (Johnson...750 carries the last 2 years.  Moss...well, MOSS!).

Saturday's gonna be interesting!

Raiders offense sucked, I'll give you that but a little known fact is they had the 3rd ranked overall defense in the NFL. Given the amount of time they were on the field that's quite a feat. Art Shell also sucked as a coach. Give away that cancer, Moss, and draft and start Jamarcus and they are .500 team. Playoffs in 09.

i just really hope they don't decide to take Quinn. I agree he'll be a bust.

Are you worried?  From the outside looking in, it's 80% Jamarcus, 19% Calvin Johnson, and 1% because Al is Al, and he may do something insane.  I guess that 1% would worry me as a fan, but not too much.

So to whom is Jamarcus going to throw? That other cancer Jerry Porter? Agreed that JR is stud enough to throw it, run downfield and catch it, but the opposing defenses will get wise to that eventually.

Agree with you about the defense, but the offense viciously sucks.

He and that great household name, Ronald Curry, are not really the answer. Seriously, if I were Jamarcus I'd be pulling a John Elway, and refuse to sign with Oakland.

Are you saying they shouldn't take him?  I don't disagree with what you're saying, but if you agree he's a stud, a franchise QB, don't you take him to build your team around?  Receiver is "supposedly" very deep in this draft...grab one later.

I guess I've come to the conclusion that a team should look at their board and pick the player they think is best...ignoring their current roster.  The great player is gonna be around for years, and the rest of the roster just gets shuffled around and the needs may change.

No, I think they have no choice BUT to take him. Don't think they'll be in the 2009 SuperBowl regardless.

That's a given, but should he play well, we know he can propel shat into 7-9/8-8, ala Vince Young.  Not comparing the two, but Brett Favre's been throwing to literally NOBODY for the last 5-years or so, with the exception of 1/2 of 2004 when Javon Walker came on.

OK, here's my top 5 picks...

Oak - JaMarcus Russel

Det - Gaines Adams (possibly here or after trading down 2-spots with TB.)

Cle - Brady Quinn - I don't like this here, but I'm going with it.

TB - Calvin Johnson - Sort of assuming they are succesful in trading with Det and trump Atlanta.

AZ - Joe Thomas

Nothing shocking here, but I think Calvin Johnson is the key.  If Atlanta wants him and trades up, it's a whole different look.

I think the Raiders should trade Moss for whatever they can get (a 3rd-5th), draft Calvin Johnson, and draft one of the QBs in the 2nd round.

At worst, they can trade Johnson to the Bucs and a get their 4th overall plus a 3rd or 4th round draft pick and still get Jamarcus with the Bucs pick.

The idea of drafting JR first and then getting a WR with the second pick is not bad either. With the 33rd pick they can get a Jarrett, Smith, Gonzales, etc type WR.

I don't think the Raiders could go wrong with Russell or C. Johnson.  But either will not make them immediately better.  Too many holes.  I think Johnson is the only guarantee in the draft...with Landry being a close second...yes, both LSU boys.  I think the Tennessee boys will do well too.  Gotta love the SEC talent.

And bear, I will go you another LSU talent and say that I hope my Chargers pick Bowe with their first round pick.  Meachum is the one I want, but he will not drop that low...and Bowe is the 3rd best WR in the draft.

Bowe's a great talent and has yet to reach or test his potential. Bolts will do well if they get him.

I have been waiting for this draft for several months. I've been going over mock drafts like a mad-man. I love this stuff.

I'm a huge Vikings fan. I am seeing a lot of mock drafts having my Vikes take running back Adrian Peterson at #7. I'm o.k. with that...but I looove Landry...but yes I know the Vikes just grabbed the Colts free safety Mike Doss a month ago, and the Redskins will probably grab Landry. Oh well. The best news for me would be the Browns passing on Quinn so my Vikes could grab him at #7. I disagree with those who think he'll be a bust. I see a solid qb.

My prediction, the beginning of the draft will unfold according to plan.
Raiders- Russell
Lions- C. Johnson
Browns- B. Quinn
Bucs- G. Adams
Cards- J. Thomas
'Skins- L. Landry
Vikes- A. Peterson

My steal who may slide is cb Aaron Ross out of Texas. Tomorrow's going to be fun!!!

I'd say the Browns got a steal getting Quinn down at 22, but they had to trade another 1st round pick so I dunno.  I totally saw that fall coming... Quinn was was over-hyped.  His whole PR campagin about wanting to be the #1 overall in the draft got the media going, but he wasn't fooling the insiders.
