Have any of you BT ladies out there done this race? I am wondering how the swim is? I looked at the course map this morning, and noticed that there are a ton of turns, and am used to the swim being pretty low on turns, so this will be my first race with numerous turns and just wondering how it is?

Thanks...still relatively new at tri's (been a runner for 20 years) so any advice is helpful!

I have not done this particular one, but I did the Naperville Sprint in August last year.  It was the same layout, just not as long.  It can get pretty jammed up at the turns, and when you are heading in towards the beach, you can actually standup and walk around the bouyes.  That was sortof annoying, but overall not to bad.  It is kind of nice for those that do not have a lot of faith in their swim.  Overall, it is a really nice course.  The bike is pretty flat and fast and traffic is all blocked off.  The run is nice too.  Through the riverwalk and some neighborhoods.  I am thinking of doing this one, but haven't signed up yet.  Good luck!

YOu should check out some race reports from last year's race.  I seem to remember there were a number of them and that the race was fairly well liked.

I signed up for this race this week!  I've heard that it's a good one to do for a first race!  I'm super-excited!

This is a great race. The swim is in an old quarry pit - water is cloudy so be aware of that. You start to swim out towards the deep, round a buoy, swim back to shallow (you can actually walk around the shallow buoys), repeat. Swin angels are everywhere. The only sort=of sucky part is that you then have to run beach and transition is a little ways away. Other than that - it is a great race! I will be doing it again this year.

I did this race, I want to say, 3 years ago?  It was great!! The swim, like Lisa said, is in Centennial man-made lake/pool, so it's pretty easy.  The whole town comes out to cheer the athletes, so a very friendly race   I'm doing it this year, we should all meet!

I agree that we should all get together some time on Saturday at the expo.  McFuzz will being a tri that morning here in town but we should be hitting town around lunchtime (I hope!).  Let's see what we can put together.  Where is everyone staying?

I won't be available for this race to get together, but if you IL girls get together at another time, let me know.  I'm in Chicago, but I do drive, LOL!!

It's a fun, lovey-dovey race. Last year, this race was my first tri ever. I ended up hugging people I will likely never see again but the group of women is amazing and very supportive. If you guys are planning on hooking up to meet at the expo, I'm in! You can never know too many others who are crazy enough to tri!

OK Girls!! As of this morning there are over 1700 registered participants with a projected count of 2500.  I think we should finalize where we would like to meet up.  I THINK that we should be in town around 11-12 but that will depend on McFuzz!!  I was thinking that we should meet at the expo and then go out for pizza or something.  McFuzz suggested a place called Connie's.  If interested PM me and we can exchange hotel stays and phone numbers.  That might make it easier to find each other.

Connie's is a good idea... one of my fav pizza/pasta places!  The only downside is that it would require driving there.  There are a ton of great restaurants in downtown Naperville that are within easy walking distance of the expo, which might be easier, depending on the number of people interested.  Dunno, just thought I'd throw that out.  We'd probably need to choose a place that would allow us to make a reservation, though, since it'll be pretty crowded.

Anyone thinking of swimming at Centennial Beach on Saturday morning?

Driving there may not be a bad idea.  None of us are staying overnight at the high school (where the expo is) and will need to go to the hotel or home for the evening.  We could also play it by ear when we get there.

I thought about trying to get over to the beach sometime on Saturday.  Do you know what the water is like?  I'm wondering if it is like a typical lake (murky) or clearer like a pool.

you guys....... there is a GREAT Mongolian BBQ place downtown Naperville (walking distance from expo, i believe)... you pick your own meats/seafood, noodles, veggies and sauces and they fry it right there for you.... and serve rice and tortillas at the table.. VERY GOOD!!! (and reasonable)... that's my vote

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you- i should be avail around 1 pm...  what time did we decide on, or did we yet?

I would vote to stay downtown Naperville for lunch (Mongolian Grill is one of my favorites, too!)...  not sure how many people are familiar with the area, and then we don't have to worry about giving out directions and meeting up at another place.  But - I'm flexible with whatever everyone else decides.

As for the water... it's an old quarry, so it is a little murky, but not too bad.  It's kind of an odd cross between lake and pool.

I swam there Saturday morning last year, and I seem to remember that at some point they started closing it down so they could get it ready for the race... but have no recollection of what time that was.  And their website doesn't have any information about that yet -- I'm sure it will as the race gets closer, though.

I have not signed up yet since I just don't know how I will do it. My training has been non-existent lately. I know I could finish it - but my times would be slow. Has anyone done one of these with a very limited base? (even if I don't do it - it would be nice to meet some fellow tri'ers. I vote dt naperville too.)

My very humble $0.02...  I think that if you're going to do any race with no training, this is the one.  The swim is straightforward and easy (parts of it can be walked and there are TONS of swim angels and such to help out), and the bike and run are both flat.  If you have any concerns about injury (if that's why training hasn't been happening, for example), then I'd say come out for the festivities and skip the race.  Otherwise, being slow is no excuse for not being out there!

Agreeing with Laura... the race is very straightforward, the swim is 6 legs with walking in 2 spots... crowded, but not as scary as open lake... and the whole town comes out to cheer, seems like, so very friendly... this was my first tri, and I loved it! Come out and do it with us!!!! (unless you are afraid of injury, then come out and hang out with us)

This is my first tri and my training has been spotty at best.  I know I can do it just not sure if I can do it up to my standards. Please join us.  IF not for the race, then for the company of lots of cool girls!
