Comments: My big goal going into this race was to jog the entire distance -- something I've never done. In September, when I got a personal trainer, I told him that my goal was to go under 40 minutes in this 5K. At the time I weighed 253 pounds. For the first mile, I planned to take it very easy. I wanted my watch to read 12:45 to 13 minutes at the 1-mile mark, and I was at 12:45 at the marker. For the second mile, I wanted to keep my HR under 172, and I did perfectly until the water break. My HR spiked to 179, but I slowed down and was able to bring it back down without taking a walking break. The stadium finish was awesome, and I could see the clock. I set a new PR by 1 minute from December. I also jogged the entire distance. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I couldn't be happier with my race. Post race
Warm down: Stretching and massage. Walked back to car 7 blocks away. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience. I've only been jogging for four months. Event comments: *Extremely* well-organized race. Even got a finisher's medal. Last updated: 2007-04-29 12:00 AM
