Pre-race routine:

Got to bed around midnight, up at 6:30. Had a Clif nectar bar, a fig newton, and half a bottle of gatorade on the drive over to the start. Picked up our race packets and went back to the car to chill out to some tunes.
Event warmup:

Jog from the car to the line for the bathroom, light stretching, and found our way to the waves we were going to start in. Glad they started the waves a minute or two apart since there were nearly 3000 people. This seemed to help with the usual logjam at the beginning.

Comments:

Started out in Wave 3 which was for mile splits of 8-10 minutes. Since this was my first 10K, I didn't really know what to expect. Training runs are usually 8:00-8:30 miles. And I would rather start a little further back and be passing people the whole way than start too far forward and be passed the entire time.

Shins started to tighten up at about a mile and a half, but that went away after a couple more minutes. I missed the mile 1 marker, so I didn't get any splits until mile 2 which I had at 16:16. And from there until the end, I had negative splits for the miles, and I finished with a good sprint for the last .2 miles.

Miles 1 and 2: 16:16
Mile 3: 7:37
Mile 4: 7:25
Mile 5: 7:17
Mile 6: 7:02
Mile 6.2: 1:04

No complaints here.
What would you do differently?:

This was automatically a personal record since it was my first 10K, and the second 5K of the race was a PR for a 5K distance. I wouldn't do anything different. Thrilled with the result.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a couple of bottles of water, got a banana, muffin, and donut. Grabbed another couple of bottles and walked back up the last third or half of a mile to run with Nathalie toward the finish and watched her come across the line. Then had a juice box, a couple of cookies, and a bowl of pasta before riding the metro back to the start.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fewer miles logged than planned.

Event comments:

Great race. Perfect for a first 10K. Well-organized and a great post-race spread.
