Comments: This was my first race in almost a year, and it was basically just something to get me back into the groove and give me a starting point to base the rest of the years races on. Even though the temp was only mid 80's, and it's going to get hotter as summer kicks in, I just wasn't ready for that heat. My HR spiked from the get go, and my RPE was pretty high. Was hoping for a bigger push with the last half mile, but I was pretty well spent by then. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe start out a little slower and save some energy for a bigger push to the finish. Considering I ran this race last year and my time was only 2 minutes faster, I'm pretty happy about how this one turned out, considering I took about 8 months off from any kind of physical activity. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with my friend from work, enjoyed some of the post-race festivities, and got a little bite to eat. What limited your ability to perform faster: My hiatus from training. Event comments: New Orleans Track Club always does a good job putting on races. Great environment, great people, and VERY organized. This was a good race because it's run throgh the French Quarter, and after the race, they open up the Bubba Gump restaurant for the racers. Overall there was 3 buffet lines, one outside and 2 in the restaurant. They served shrimp pasta, ceaser salad, and bread. Great deal for the $20 entry fee. I'll definitely do this race again next year. Last updated: 2007-04-19 12:00 AM

As has been the case most of the past couple of weeks, I didn't sleep really good the night before. Woke up about 4:30, milled around a bit, watched some tv, got on the computer, and finally decided to head down to the race.
Met up with a friend from work who was running the race also, and helped get him registered. Stretched a little and a light jog to warm up.
