Total Time = 3h 06m 10s
Overall Rank = 2388/4000
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 302/343
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00 and loaded up everything (except my water bottles) and headed out. Stopped and got an english muffin and water and got to race site a about 6:00

Event warmup:

Didn't get a chance to warm up in the water as my group was lining up when I got my chip finally
Swim
  • 34m 38s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started out too fast and wasn't used to the wetsuit. Could not breath at all. Had to keep stopping and trying to pull the neck down. Ended up unzipping the back a little and that gave me a little extra breathing room and then I got my timing and started doing great. Caught up with a bunch of the swimmers that had left me behind earlier
What would you do differently?:

make sure I was used to my wetsuit and not wear it if I was not feeling comfortable with it.
Transition 1
  • 03m 39s
Comments:

Not a great transition. Had trouble getting the wetsuit off the ankles. My helmet straps got tangled and I had to redo them several times. Once I got up and running to the exit, I did a good job of getting out of transition and getting on the bike and up to speed.
What would you do differently?:

Check my straps before the race.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 12s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 18.79 mile/hr
Comments:

I was happy with the ride. Don't think I could have done a lot better....maybe gotten a little more speed when I had a tailwind or downhill and pulled my upper speeds a little longer. But overall a good ride
What would you do differently?:

More water. I was definately underhydrated going into the run
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Decent transition. could have gotten into the shoes a little faster, but not too bad.
Run
  • 1h 06m 55s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I SUCK! I hadn't been able to run this month because of an ankle injury so I had to choose in the last week whether to train and aggravate the ankle, but be more ready to run or to let the ankle heal and not have any run training going in. Kind of the damned if you do and damned if you don't thing. I let it rest and suffered mightily on the run. 9 minutes slower than last year's run.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.....
Post race
Warm down:

Beer.

Tough to do that run with a bum ankle. Nice job getting through it.

Like the warmdown routine

Sounds like you did the run as well as you could given your ankle.

Sounds like you did great to me!

I had a hard time in T1 too. Aerobottle problems. Was in there for almost 4 freaking minutes!! Anyway, great race yesterday. What's next?

Talon Race this weekend (8-12 hour adventure race) and then Mad Beach.  How about you?  What's next?

Also, what did you think of the transition set up this year?  I was lucky where I was located, but I thought the new set up was confusing.

Awesome race!

Glad you were able to run with an ankle injury. Nice paces all the way around...fun race!

It was hot out there on the run and I don't think any of us did well on the run part of the race. Chip line was incredibly poorly organized.

Congrats!
