Swim
Comments: The swim was the one I was most nervous about. But I had a fabulous swim - PB in fact. My fastest swim on 1500 ever. Didn't stop once. Felt good all the way and had plenty left in the tank. What would you do differently?: Go harder. I could have broken 30 minutes Transition 1
Comments: This was by far one of the best trans I've ever done. I was fast, efficient but not crazy. Except I forgot ALL my nutrition. Just grabbed my camel back. What would you do differently?: Get a bento box so I don't forget my nutrition. Bike
Comments: This is where I was really feeling it. Thought I was going to really blaze this race. But then of course tire blew five miles into the race. Changed tire - my first time ever changing a tire and in a race even! Then got back on. It ook me about 35 minutes to change the tire and by the time I got back into the race I was an 1 hour after leaving T1. I was seriously behind but thought I could make it up. Then at 10 miles tire went flat AGAIN! And the wheel was wobbly. So pumped up the tire again. At 15 miles tire went flat AGAIN. and that's when I figured I had a hole in my spare tube. So I quit and asked a cop to call for a SAG vehicle. But alas no SAG's and I had to - get this - take a freakn' taxi cab back to the Transition. Never heard of that in a race before. Really crazy. Couldn't believe it. So I had a DNF. What would you do differently?: Carry 40 tubes? :) No make sure to check all my spares, tools etc before every race to make sure that they're good. Transition 2

Event comments: I was really disappointed that I got a DNF, my first ever. But on the bright side. After the race I went to an LBS and damned if they didn't have a German dark beer on TAP on their refrigerator. Ted gave me a cold mug and I got to drown my sorrows in some pretty good damn imported German beer. Another plus - at that same bike shop I walk in and I'm talking to Ted while he puts together my bike. And this cute black haired guy walks in. He's tan and lovely. And he's speaking in an Australian accent. I say, "Where r you from? Let me guess New Zealand?" "Nope," he smiles. "Close. Australia." Cool I love Australia. Yeah but I'm in the states for the summer. Are you from Florida Nope. Colorado I'm doing the St. A's this weekend. Oh yeah. Ted: This is the guy that's going to win it. Oh really, Cute guy smiles again - I don't know about that. Hi I'm Chris. He holds out his hand. I'm Ovetta. We shake hands and proceed to talk about how great triathlons are. And how competitive. Me: Yeah and last year the Ironman turned out to be a foot race. Can you imagine a sprint at the end of the Ironman? Chris: Well, yeah kind of. Me: O MI God you're the sprint guy!!! Turns out I was talking to Chris MaCormak the 2nd place finishers for the pros at Ironman National Championships. Geez what a dullard I am! He was sweet and it was great to meet him. Ate Koshi honey puff cereal. Yum and drank Yogurt smoothie.
Got to transition - geez it was freakin' huge about 5 acres. Got there around 4:30. Stashed the bike and ate my second breakfast - bananna and Gatorade. Hit the potty and then ran for about a mile.
