Subject: Talk to me about Jekyll Island.....

We're heading down Friday afternoon for the race on Saturday and I'm very excited. I haven't been there since I was in 8th grade and I don't know much about the island. Is there food on the island? (grocery, restaurants, etc.) Can you buy beer on the island or is it dry? (a very important detail ) We're actually staying at the campground on the island so I need to know how much stuff I'm going to have to buy here to take with us. Thanks in advance!

Mindy

so.jekylls a VERY cool island.... lots of old/great houses...plenty of flat ground to ride/run on...and lots of shoreline...

but dont forget sea island and st simons..they are so close...and have much more to offer in the way of beer..I KNOW!!! check out downtown st simmons...also theres a outfitter there that does sea kayaks through the marshes...definately worth the trip....

at sea island hit the cloister..they just renovated it...same place they had the G8 summit last year..my uncle has a place on the island..amazing!!

have a blast!

It has been a few years since I went to Jeykll, but there is a place to buy food and stuff and they have a pretty nice restaurant on the beach too. I hope you guys have a good time. There is also a pretty neat restaurant at the Marina also. Unfortunately, I can not remember the name of either of them.

I hope you guys have a good time.

You might want to stop in Brunswick on your way in to Jekyll.  I don't remember there being an actual grocery store on the island.

There are a few good restaurants.  The one at the marina (Sea Jay's Waterfront Cafe) is good, if you don't mind the cats.  I really liked the one at the Jekyll Island Club's dock (Latitude Thirty-One).

I was hoping to do this race this year, but I had to admit, I'm just not ready for that long of a swim quite yet.  I'm looking for another Oly to do later in the year.

Have fun.  Kick butt!
