Swim
Comments: For some reason on the first loop, I couldn't get my sighting down very well. Another thing is to all Race Directors, don't have the same color caps as the buoys. I was seeing orange and thinking buoy when it all reality it was a swimmer. Buouys were not spaced evenly either. What would you do differently?: Get more warm up in. I need to do about 12 minutes of continous swimming. Transition 1
Comments: Transitions are VERY SLOW for me. I know this, but for 1/2 Iron and Iron distance shouldn't make too much of a difference for me. I always seem to be really dizzy after coming out of the water for some reason. . . Don't really catch my balance until I am on the bike and going. Bike
Comments: RAIN RAIN RAIN. I don't mind the rain so much, but the temp was dropping and the winds were crazy. Typical midwest Thunderstorm. 1 loop course. Things started out ok, had a tailwind which seemed to make things easier. After about 20 minutes my legs were warmed up and I was doing good. Just trying to keep my HR in check and nutrition plan working. Then . . . It started to rain. About 30 minutes into the bike it started to rain. . stopped after about 10 minutes or so, but there was thunder and lightning. At about mile 19 it started to POUR! Rain was coming down hard. Lightning strikes about 50 yards away and LOUD THUNDER. At mile 27 they pulled everyone off the course and that was it for the day. . Everyone stood in a hay barn and waited for rides back to transition. Stood around for about an hour shivering and cold. Went back to transition to find a small lake then had to take my vehicle back to hay barn and pick up bike. Transition 2

Post race
Event comments: A weather induced DNF. Everyone was DNF for the day. The race was called. It was over for everyone at mile 27 of the bike. I guess some people did by the checkpoint mile 27 where they were pulling people off, but that was only about 3-5 people. Last updated: 2007-02-20 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45. Drank some Accelerade, ate some sports beans on the way. Got to transition, got everything ready. Drank some water before getting in the lake for the swim.
About 100 yards. To get really warmed up to swim, I should do about 1000 yards.
