Overall Rank = 171/172

Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Up early, Oatmeal, coffee, Powerade.
Recheck the bag.Pumped the bike tires up.
Event warmup:

Hit the PortaPotty 3 times. Walked, biked slow.
Swim
  • 29m 5s
  • 880 yards
  • 03m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good start. Faded into sidestroke and breast stroke fairly quickly.Goggles fogged up badly for the last half.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 time was added into the swim time along with a 340 yd jog from the beach into the transition area.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 37s
  • 17.5 miles
  • 14.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Biking was improved over last year. Next year I may bring an improved bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 time was added into the run I believe.
What would you do differently?:

Will consider getting some trishorts, as I changed out of biking into running shorts.
Run
  • 1h 01m 38s
  • 5 miles
  • 12m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

As usual, the first half mile was on lead legs. Loosened up after that, but the last 3 miles was the run/walk combo.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink as much. I pour a lot of water on my head, but I still drank too much.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, stretch, chocolate chip cookie, Gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Primarily not enough training. A road bike would help.

Event comments:

This was my second time doing the Niles Triathlon (the 23rd anniversary of the race). It was my intro into the tri world last year. After surviving it, I figured I could do just about anything. Next year I'll be back to pursue a new PR.
