Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:45 and ate 1/2 a bagle, a bannana, and an orange that Trixie put down her shirt :) Took care of a few "important" pre-race "rituals" and headed to the race start with Trixie, Rizzo & Runnergirl.

Event warmup:

I was really nervous before the start. I feel really bad, because I was so nervous that I kind of zoned out and ignored everyone. I ended up wandering off when the ladies went to the bathroom and I didn't get a chance to wish everyone good luck.

Comments:

Overall I felt really well. The course was really hilly, but I did the majority of my long runs on hills, so I was well prepared to handle the course. I should have been a little smarter with the start though. I started around the 9:00min pace group not thinking that there would be a good number of people running a slower pace farther up in front of me. I spent the first 3 or 4 miles trying to weave my way through the crowd and get into a "groove." I averaged between an 11 & 12 min. pace for the first few miles and I am convinced that it was that time that I "lost" in the beginning that kept me from finishing in my goal of 1:45. I was happy though that I ran the last 5K around 21:00, I guessed it helped that it was mostly down hill :)
What would you do differently?:

I would put myself further up in the start.

Post race
Warm down:

After the race I headed back to the hotel, showered and changed. I made a sign for Runnergirl, Trixie and Rizzo and then headed back to the course to root them on. I found a good spot under a bridge and cheered people on until I saw Trixie running backwards and Runnergirl coming on strong. I was really surprised at how good Runnergirl looked, she did really well. After they passed I headed to the finish and waited for them. After a little confusion I finally found them and we headed back to the hotel where they showered. We waited on Rizzo to finish and then after a few "good-byes" we headed out on our journey back home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Starting too far in the pack and getting poked in the eye by a huge set of pig wings!!!

Event comments:

This is a very good race. It is really well organized and the volunteers were great. The only problem was the parking in Cinncy, but other than that everything was great. The people were really courteous and everything was well accessible. I would recommend this race to anyone who is looking for a good hilly challenge.

Yay- your first race report!

I know you were disappointed with your time, but you seriously ran like 3/4's of your race uphill.  It was a tough course and you still PR'ed by 2 mins!  You still had an awesome race!  You'll get your 1:45 next time!

Great job Jon! You ran an awesome race on a difficult couse.
