Gulf Coast Triathlon
90F / 32C
Sunny
Total Time = 5h 59m 23s
Overall Rank = ?/
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

I got up, ate a bagel and PB, a banana, and some coffee. Got my stuff ready to go, and off I went
Event warmup:

I was close to the end of Transition closing, so I got my gear laid out and then went to get ready to swim. I ended up just staying in the water until my group was ready to go.
Swim
  • 37m 6s
  • 2078 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think I swam 1.4 instead of 1.2. It was a clusterf&ck on the edge of the nav buoys, so I stayed out a bit. I got off course a little and had to steer in a bit. I also went a bit wide in the end as well.
What would you do differently?:

I have only swam 2 days in all of april going into May so I knew this would not be my strong suit today. It will get better.
Transition 1
  • 04m 55s
Comments:

I did not hurry through this one bit. I made sure everything was as it should be and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

I probably should have made an effort to get through this a bit quicker.
Bike
  • 2h 42m 10s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.72 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't have cadence or speedo working on this, so I went by HR and by feel.
What would you do differently?:

I think I am fairly happy with this
Transition 2
  • 06m 24s
Comments:

If anybody has read my HIM race reports, you all know that T2 is where I drop a deuce... no fail. It added at least 3 minutes to my time to get in there, undone, drop the kids off, and get all back together again, so this would have been much faster.
What would you do differently?:

Use an enema before the race. Either that or wear brown shorts. Maybe UPS is on to something.
Run
  • 2h 28m 48s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt pretty good, but it was just flat out hot. So hot, you could cook in your pants. Crotch pot cookin.

What would you do differently?:

I did not cramp hardly at all until 10 miles deep. It was just hard to run. Probably too hard on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Recuperated with a gatorade, and chips in the athlete tent. I felt better seeing that I could at least smile, and talk whilst others were being carried off to the med tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat.

Event comments:

Awesome race. Even though this is a heatfest, I would come back down and do it again.

Nice work. Having to drop one during a race is the worst. I try to minimise the possibility of that going into the event.. start prepping three days before. Up that fiber intake. Congrats on sub 6.

Great job!

Yeah, rounding the corners around the buoys is a little like a cage fight - Punch/Kick/Gouge. Nice time on only two days of base!

Congrats Again,

Looks like we had a similar pre-race routine and race experience!  I'm not touching those pre-race bagels again!
