Overall Rank = 30/701
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/62
Pre-race routine:

woke up at 430am and had my normal bagel with peanut butter and honey. Loaded the vehicle and headed for the 1hr drive to race site.
Event warmup:

Swam the 300m swim course, thats about it. Hung out with Mike and Charles before the race.
Swim
  • 05m 26s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had a goal of under 5 min for this course. All my training I should have easily hit this. First problem was i didnt get a front line spot and started behind someone. Gun went off and I had a hard time getting around this person. once past I was ok, rounded buoy and hit the back of the wave in front of me. I literraly had to stand up and push some people out of the way to get around. Just hit a wall of people.
What would you do differently?:

Once i rounded the buoy i should have looked more often and could have avoided the group of people that made me stand up.
---
in the pool i consistently hit 1:35m per 100m, need to translate into race
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Overall good transition, long run from swim exit to transition area
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 32m 20s
  • 11.1 miles
  • 20.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt really good on the course, starts off with slight uphill then nice rollers and shaded, then make turn on back side and begin the gradual ride up the hills. I struggled a little on the back side for some reason, normally i feel really strong on the hills and i had to push myself to keep a decent pace. Basically I can divide the ride into 3 segments, strong/struggled/strong. finsihed last few miles strong.
What would you do differently?:

Felt on this course I should have averaged 21.5 mph, just goes to show myself that need a little more work. Just felt a little flat right in the middle of the bike
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Overall good t2, took a few extra seconds to put on # belt as missed the hole initially
What would you do differently?:

none
Run
  • 13m 34s
  • 2 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

This run felt good, took first few minutes to get legs under me then settled into nice pace. Never felt like i had to push myself really hard. Ideally would like to be close to this pace for captex - oly in a few weeks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, all my bricks and running is really paying off. My run is feeling really stron
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out at race with Mike and Charles. Also got in a free ART session with Dr Z.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ok swim, ok bike, strong run. I know my bike is stronger than this. Need to work in some more speed drills

Event comments:

Jack and Adams always do a great job with the races they host. Definate must and a good way to start the season

Really strong race Jamie! You might be disappointed but you are way ahead of the pack at this time of year.   Great job and nice hanging with ya at the race.  That was a fun one!

Great race.  Yep, I'd call that a strong run!  You'll be ready for CapTex.

Really strong race; not much more than a workout by your normal standards.

Must have been a good-sized hill to slow you down.

Your overall placing was outstanding.

You'll smoke CapTex.

See you there.
