Subject: RE: Lake swims anyone?
I just found this thread and got excited because I too was dying for my first lake washington swim so yesterday morning when I woke up and it felt hot already, I decided it was the day so I took myself over to Matthews Beach and put my feet in and it didnt seem so bad so I went for it! I have a armless wetsuit, so the first thing i noticed was "wow my arms are cold" and then the next thing I noticed was "I have a ice cream headache"; I just made myself swim hard for a few strokes and then got used it. The parts of my body in the wetsuit were totally fine, my ears ached from the cold water but I lasted 20 minutes and I wasnt freezing when I got out.

SO, if you are hearty person (and have a nice layer of insulation like me) you probably can do the lake swim with a wetsuit. I am doing the Black Diamond tri in about 4 weeks so I figured I better get going on the OW swim's.

I would do some group swims too if it fits with my crazy work schedule--Saturday mornings coud work for me.

I think the weather is supposed to take a down turn tonight and tomorrow might be too soon, but I would love to shoot for next Saturday. I think the weather is supposed to progressively get better thru out the week. I know its a holiday weekend so y'all might be out of town though.

Im willing to go anywhere on Lake Washington, I know Seward Park is a favorite so thats Ok with me. The earlier the better, less boat traffic. Maybe 9am?

Sorry I didn't think we meant THIS Saturday. I'm doing a sprint on Saturday so won't be available. I'm off the whole month of June so really ANY day can work for me.

I've been in both Green Lake (freakin' cold) on May 1st, and Lake Washington (really freakin' cold) on the 80 degree day, but I was just in my running shorts and jumped in off the docks, and quickly climbed back out. I've gotta get in the water too, my running is pretty squared away for now, but I've gotta get swimming...

Probably so, I'm usually there in the mornings, when I'm on parent duty it's about 0830 or so, running from the two mile mark in, then back out, sometimes on the sand, when I'm running with my new running partner, it's at about 0630 from the zero mark. We should go some time, I'm always looking for new people to push me along. When I'm running at 0630 it's usually about a 11min/mile, but when I'm running solo and having a good day, it's 7-8min/miles for 3-4 miles. See ya at the beach... -luke

Well hello there to anyone interested.

I signed up for a June 30th Tri. All outside (for once) so I'm thinking SATURDAY JUNE 2nd for a suit swim? Anyone care to join me? I will probably bike from Renton to Seward Park and go from there. If it's really HORRIBLE outside then yeah, no go. I just don't know how I'll handle swimming in a wetsuit so the earlier I get some practice in, the better.

8 sounds good to me! That is actually the day Im supposed to do my practice tri, 2 weeks before my race, so it would work perfectly. My plan would be to swim around 1/2 hr, bike about 2 hours, and run 45. Ack, that sounds awful right now! Im doing the Cascades Edge Olympic on June 17, did I already ask if anyone else is doing it? I cant remember.

Ok that sounds good. I will probably drive then. If it's raining it's a no go I'm afraid. Urgh that would just suck. We should probably agree on a location etc. Any starbucks sounds good to me. LOL

I'm going to enquire about a wetsuit today.

If we are meeting at Seward Park, then we can just meet at the beach next to the bathouse/pottery studio (its on the water if you havent been there). There's no starbucks around....
YOu can rent at Speedy Reedy in Seattle or I think Triumph might rent them too. I know you said you arent going to buy one ever, but at Speedy Reedy you can put the price of the rental towards a purchase if you end up buying one there.

I am going to Speedy Reedy I know exactly where the pottery house is. I run round Seward park with my dog occasionally and I bike from there too. I LURVE Seward Park.

I'm going to message you both with my cell number incase something comes up.

I would love to join you guys but I have family coming into town that weekend and I don't think I could convince them that an OWS would be a good idea. Let me know if you do another one though!!

Well if the weather is fitting enough I plan to go at least every Saturday in June. I'm off for that entire month!! WOHOO!!! :::dances::::

Saturdays really do work best so maybe we could just have it on those days at around 8 - 9? Seward Park area? I see people swim there all the time in the summer and I was always so jealous of them.

Nice!!! I am really looking forward to this and of course meeting new people!!!

I'm going to warn you all now. I have a very thick Scottish accent. If you can't understand me, it's ok. I'm bringing paper and pens for all.

Shoot! I just remembered that Issaquah Tri is that Saturday and although I am not racing, I was going to go to support my tri team. So I may not be able to make it to swim after all.

That's funny, the Issaquah tri is the main reason I cannot get a wetsuit for this weekend.

Would anyone be offended if we moved it a week forward to the 9th? I'm really sorry about this but I've tried 3 places for a suit and it seems they really are booked up.
