Pre-race routine:

walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere. did a small swim warmup to get confidence
Event warmup:

not much... see above
Swim
  • 23m 58s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

Lots of room for improvement. Need better breathing. Need to swim straight. still had fun. did too much sweet spot and side stroking. I felt like I had a lot of energy afterwards.
What would you do differently?:

practice more sighting. More open water swimming. SWIM STRAIGHT. Remember to star my watch at the horn and not a couple of minutes after I started swimming.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

didn't wear a wetsuit. took off my goggles and cap while running to T1. everything went smooth and as planned
What would you do differently?:

make towel easier to stand on with putting on shoes. Water bottle worked great to wash feet... that is until i stepped in the grass
Bike
  • 36m 11s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.24 mile/hr
Comments:

felt like I was on fire. passed a lot of people. tried to cheer them on as I passed without sounding like a jerk. did however accednetly block a lady that I passed at the top of a hill while I was on the way down the other side. I'm not used to hugging the right side of the road at 35mph. I did pass her back once we hit flat again.
What would you do differently?:

bike harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

got a little lost. It was harder to find my spot without the bike there... ha ha ha
What would you do differently?:

practice getting off moving bike and remembering were rack is.
Run
  • 25m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

big bad cramp in the first mile. I think I needed more water and less gatorade. Drank water at every stop and it helped. with less than a mile left thought about the fellow Donkeys and kicked it in.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate differently (more water) and run harder
Post race
Warm down:

walked around with wife and strecthed

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim and cramp.

Event comments:

I know it's my first tri... but it was way better than the running races. Just needed more trash cans.

Awesome job on your first tri! Those are some smoking times on the bike and run! That whole "stay to the right" thing can be hard to remember sometimes, until you have somebody yelling at you! Oh, and welcome to the tri addiction!
