OK. Is it just me, or does it disturb anyone else that the "mascot" for that restaurant -- and I use that term loosely -- is a big rat?

I'm sorry. Why don't they just have a dancing cockroach?

My husband got me a Garmin Forerunner 305 with bike mount.  Now, if I could figure out how to use all the features!!

It consistently tells me my heart rate is too high when running, but I don't think so.  It's right in the middle of Z4.  Anybody know anything about the 305?  (I am 40 years old, so it figured my training zones based on my age).

THANKS

Forget those zones, don't even worry about that.  Robyn posted a spreadsheet of one of the best ways to get the zones right way back.  You need to test yourself that way for run and bike (which will be different) if you want to follow any HR guidelines.

Otherwise, the 305 is fantastic!  I used one during all of 2007.  The only thing I don't like is that it gives some funky altitude readings for me.  I could be on a flat stretch, and it will tell me I'm up and down like a yo-yo. Undecided

I have a 305 also and know what you mean with regard to the elevation. One thing to check is the GPS firmware, and the unit software for the 305. Garmin updates them periodically and has made a bunch of fixes to the 305 - including making the elevation more accurate.

Currect GPS firmware is v3.00 as of Nov 12 07
Currect Unit software is v2.80 as of Nov 12 07

Don't forget to update the Traning Center software too..

It's the first post on page 11.  It's definitely more accurate than 220-age!

Just butting in here as a friend.

The 220- your age thing is the average of millions of people. You own individual heart rate max might be up to 30 beats per minute higher or lower than the 220 - your age. Plus women's heart rates tend to be a little faster than mens.

The test that Robyn told you about is a great way to find your max heart rate.

Once you have that you can use the heart rate charts here on BT to get your zone training rates. Its under the Training tab.

Also be aware, that your max heart rate and Lactate threshold rates are different for each sport. Your heart rate will be higher running than for biking and lower still for swimming. I think its because the bike and water partially support your body weight, while running doesnt have that support.

If you google motionbased.com they take your data straight from the Garmin and give you elevation info based on the US Geological Survey compared to your satellite way points

grnidone - 2008-01-03 8:26 PM you..have a new group..?

I joined JamesG's mentor group. I thought it would be good to meet more BTers and get another perspective on training and racing. Some others have joined new groups as well....and Bob is even a mentor now.

Its funny how each group you join has its own personality. The first time I joined a mentor group, the mentor couldn't continue to do it for personal reasons, so a few of us just muddled through on our own. Then came Robyn's group. Now I'm in JamesG's group. (BTW, he does post some really great training info if you want to lurk.)

I'll probably lurk on Robyn's new group and Bob's group for even more info.

I'm in TriAya's group, super chatty and lots of info.  It is fun. Bob's running his own, and I peek in there once in a while, too!  Hope you all are having a Happy New Year!  Off topic, I posted some pix in my blog today of five years ago when I had my first son.  Time flies!  Hope Santa was good to all.....
