Sunny
Total Time = 5h 03m 40s
Overall Rank = 170/1301
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 30/125
Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 4:15 by alarm. bagel with PB, banana, started drinking GU2O. about 30 minutes later, ate the power on the way to the race. finished bottle of GU2O by race time and had one gel 15 minutes prior to start.

Perfect pre race fueling !!!
Event warmup:

get in wetsuit and do a few arm swings.
Swim
  • 30m 28s
  • 2078 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good wim for me. Caught a jelly fish across the face after about 1200 yards. paranoid after that and started seeing them everywhere.
What would you do differently?:

pay attention to the diection of the current and use it rather than fight it.
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

good transition. Long run to T1, but took suit off as soon as I hit the concrete and ran the rest of the way. Smart play Quick towel off of midsection, legs,a nd arms in order to apply sunscreen. The continuous spray works really well for non covered areas. popped a gel in transition.
What would you do differently?:

put body glide around outside of ankles and rememebr your timing chip is under there. only cost me a few seconds, but that might be important during a sprint.
Bike
  • 2h 41m 4s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike for me !!! Unfortunately that shows me where I need to develop. That was my weak area and I had a good ride. Maybe the tri bike will help with new positioning to give me more power. Off season work focus !!!
What would you do differently?:

nothing. pushed hard, but not too hard. Had good legs for the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Good transition again. reapplied sunscreen with continuous spray. works well. fast, but did not rush.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 1h 46m 27s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good and stuck to plan. stayed in high zone 2 until mile 7. Per may pre race plan, if I felt good at mile 7, push pace. I did and then realized I would be close to the 5 hour mark. Pushed a little harder. nutrition was pretty good. gels were not digesting as quickly as I wanted after I picked up the pace. (into zone 3 at this point) I stopped gels and just took gatorade at each aid station for the remainder. No problems since I feel that I caught it early. makes me feel like I am in tune with my body and can switch to a back up plan without worry.
What would you do differently?:

push a little harder form the start and not so hard at the end. I think if I had done this, I would have been faster without hurting so much for the last 7 miles.
Post race
Warm down:

walked for about 10 minutes and downed any fluid in sight.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bike !!!

Event comments:

Great race !!! wnat to do it again. only bad thing is the rough roads in the middle of the bike, but where can you ride for 56 miles without hitting any rough roads. Had a blast and enjoyed teh post race party and weekend festival atmoshphere.

Looks like a great race to me!

Hey, why isn't there a time for your swim?

Jelly fish? I would have bailed. Those things scare me.

Congratulations on the race!

just now saw your comments. thanks for the props. I didn't realize I forgot to enter the swim time. The jelly fish weren't that big and I didn't see them until I made the 2nd turn toward shore. (not that bad, but that's all I thought about during the last leg. I'm kind of a girl like that)
