Hi All - Apparently this race is going to sell out very fast due to Dave Parcells death. Everyone in my tri club does this race and they love it apparently very good course and well organised. They have just realeased the race details per below mail. I have been advised to register today if I want to get in................

Register today for the 22nd Annual Madison Triathlon, Renamed for Friend and Event Director Dave Parcells!

http://active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1436419

The Madison Jaycees would like to remind you to register for the 22nd Annual Madison Triathlon to be held on September 8, 2007 at the Madison Surf Club.

This event SOLD OUT nearly a month in advance the last 3 years, so we encourage you to register early to reserve a spot!

The Jaycees are saddened by the sudden passing of longtime friend and Triathlon Event Director Dave Parcells, and have renamed the event in his honor. In 2002, Dave became the oldest person and fourth American to complete a double-cross of the English Channel, raising over $140,000 for St. Vincentbs Medical Center. Dave was also an accomplished Triathlete. He completed two Iron Man competitions 16 years apart, founded several of Connecticutbs local Triathlons, and encouraged others to challenge themselves at these events. With Davebs support, the Madison Jaycees have used funds from the Madison Triathlon to support local charities and youth sports programs.

The Jaycees will also be holding a raffle at the Triathlon this year, with proceeds benefiting The Dave Parcells Swim Fund for Cancer and MS, so remember to bring cash to enter!

The race course along the Madison Shoreline is beautiful and the Surf Club is the perfect venue for such a race. (Please be aware that dogs are not permitted at the Surf Club, per Town regulations). We are confident that you will enjoy the experience and want to come back next year!

Help to continue Davebs work by registering for the 22nd Annual Madison Triathlon, to be held Saturday September 8th, 2007 at 7 am. For more information and to register, please visit

It's a good event.

Hopefully they will have an accurate swim distance this year though.

You said this is a sprint right? That is 1/2 mile swim 12 mile bike and 5K run? That is what I am doing in the Danskin and they said that is a sprint...but I saw sprint somewhere else and the numbers were different....I know it sounds like a stupid question but...that is wy I am on BEGINNERtriathlete. Thanks!

Sprints tend to differ in length, but they are all shorter than an OLY.

I couldn't remember so I went back to an old race report of mine to check and found this:

"You know, I'm not sure about the distance on this swim. It was advertised as a 1/2 mile but just before the start of the first wave they announced the course was 1,000y ..."

So, flip a coin.

Seriously, I don't mind sprints being different lengths, but I want to know that the advertised distance is going to be the distance I have to cover when I get there.

That's because you are preachy...well, you know

I have always heard this is a good race but just wrong time of year for me so I haven't done it.

Swim ½ mile, Bike 13 miles, Run 3 miles

www.trifind.com has every race for every state with complete distance descriptions.

I thought madison was ok, nothing too great.
