13C / 55F
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 36m 37s
Overall Rank = 62/109
Age Group = Senior Women
Age Group Rank = 3/7
Pre-race routine:

Magic Pancakes
Event warmup:

Warm up jogging in wetsuit
Swim
  • 27m 34s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

Got in a good position for the start. Could see there were some people who were doomed before they even got going. Started well but I didn't really know where I was spotting and did a few zig zags along the way

Def felt the difference swimming downstream on the way back. It was lovely!
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention, kept drifting off in thought.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Feet were frozen solid when got out the water but had a speedy transition out of suit and into gear.
Got up to speed well and passed someone trying to put their shoes on going uphill.
Waited til I was on a clear straight then put shoes on but was tough with wet numb feet to get them in clean so I fumbled a bit, but maintained a fair speed.
Bike
  • 1h 21m 49s
  • 25 miles
  • 18.33 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike time let me down a bit. Had some great moments though, where I gained time on people by being better technically like over the brow of hills, taking better lines round corners and getting back up to speed more quickly when had to slow.
Got stopped at pelican crossing on the way in, which was so irritating.
Like going in an elevator with 'shopping' music half way through a gun fight. (Only 4 months now til we become Mr & Mrs Smith!!)
What would you do differently?:

Run the people at the crossing down (only joking!)

Transition 2
  • 00m 36s
Comments:

Sat down to put shoes on. Feet were completely dead and I didn't want to risk cramp.
Run
  • 45m 49s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 35s  min/km
Comments:

My previous PB for a straight 10K is 49mins.
I am ecstatic with my run time! Finally I'm running faster!! YAY!!!
Felt so comfortable on the run too, felt like I was doing a good pace and felt really strong. Woo hoo!!!
What would you do differently?:

Sprint rather than dance with glee to the finish line knowing I had done sub 46min
Post race
Warm down:

Chattered, jumped up and down, and then stretched.

Much prefer the Oly to the Sprints. The sprints are just over too quickly.

Event comments:

Timing chips and good weather made for a great race this year.
Will def do again next year
