  • 400 meters
  • 02m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

Did well in the first 100 meters but lost my rhythm and had trouble breathing. I think the water being cold took so my wind out of my sails.
What would you do differently?:

Need to swim more so it is 2nd nature for rhythm
Transition 1
  • 03m 26s
Comments:

Put my helmet on 1st before shirt. duh
What would you do differently?:

It is somewhat confusing after a hard swim to focus so layout my stuff better
Bike
  • 43m 47s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.44 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt pretty good on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Push it harder next time
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

I slowed down so wife could take picture. Hey, it's the memories that count in the long run
Run
  • 31m
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 12s  min/km
Comments:

The course was challenging but I felt that I wasn't pushing hard enough. I also got confused on one portion and thought I made a wrong turn so I slowed down. Found out I was on the right trail but it cost me 15 seconds
What would you do differently?:

Run harder toward the end. I felt like I could have pushed harder but my body did not cooperate.
Post race
Event comments:

This was my first race so I was thrilled to have finished it. This is a fun sport

I stand corrected on at least one thing - the water was 64 degrees and not 69 degrees.

So far, I am signed up for the DC Tri in September. I waited too long to sign up for the Reston Tri. I'll plan on volunteering at the event instead. I'm doing a Bike Century June 10th (my first) but is a ride for the Diabetes Association.  I was thinking about the Little Pepper but I'll have to see if I have any saddle left after the century.

Just FYI, Reston Tri registration closes within 20 minutes of opening. It is crazy how fast it fills out. Many local athletes in this area only do this one race. So if you want to do this race next year get you computer on 10 minuted before the registration and then go! go! go! :-)
