Total Time = 1h 32m 6s
Overall Rank = 14/189
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/27
Pre-race routine:

Awakened by the sound of thunder. Had a couple bowls of cheerios.

Set up the bikes in the rain and went back to the Hotel to rest, wait and check the weather
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 06m 40s
  • 880 yards
  • 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a decent swim for me
What would you do differently?:

Find someone to draft. Breathe with more of a pattern
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

8th overall
What would you do differently?:

Just need to get used to the new wetsuit
Bike
  • 55m 16s
  • 19.8 miles
  • 21.49 mile/hr
Comments:

I think that the actual miles may be a bit short.

Good solid bike ride. Kept up with some of the faster riders and passed many.

Tried a new nutrition plan and it seemed to work well.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

7th overall

Smoked through this transition. Everything was smooth except that I had no feeling in my left foot and had to visually check to make sure I was slipping the foot in.
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 28m 34s
  • 4.2 miles
  • 06m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

This was an excellent run for me. My pace was 20 sec a mile faster than the 2.8 mile run two weeks ago at Chain of Lakes.

Was complimenting another racer on his strong start to the run when we both got blown away by another racer. He said, "THAT is a strong start." and we both laughed.

Finished 16 seconds behind last year's winner (ok, he WAS injured) and 34 seconds ahead of last year's second place finisher. There some real gazeles that are showing up at races this year. I have kind of resigned myself to improving over last year and maybe not taking home so much hardware. My age group is pretty tough this year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Headed back to the hotel for a shower.

Event comments:

Excellent, well organized and a nice venue.

No (edit) sh*t your AG is really strong this year! I can't believe a performance like this doesn't land you in the top 3. You've got a kick run, and that T2 is smokin. You'll have to let me in on your transition secrets.

Nice job today! Next time say hi!

Nice job!  We will have to meet up at Nevis since we are both doing that race.

Once again, great race David!

Very impressed with your run. You really did make some strides in just a couple of weeks!

Winning hardware is definitely nice, but if you keep improving, what more can you do?

Your telling me the competition in your age group is tough, you should wee it from back here in the middle of the pack. Great Race! Maybe some day I will be fast enough to see hi to you some where other than the transition area prior to the race. hee hee Looks like Nevis is our next race together, see you there.

Great Job,
Mike

Thanks to all for the nice things to say.

FF: I'll try to find some transition stuff for you. It doesn't appear like we will have a chance to meet at any other races this year.

Ben & Mike: I'll set up a time and place for the BT crew to get together in Nevis.

Jon: I think that the improvement over the last two weeks can be attributed to three things: 1) no side stitch. 2) Better rest the week prior to the race. I recognized on Wed that I had been overdoing it. An inspire from freckle face on Thu reminded me that those days occur and got me thinking that I needed a rest rather than training. 3) Better race nutrition.

Kelly: I have to place top ten in something! If nothing else, transitions will do.
