Total Time = 2h 48m 53s
Overall Rank = 82/240
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 10/28
Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 0445. Had two cups of coffee and ate yogurt, banana and Cliff Bar. Was setting up transition area before sun even came up.
Event warmup:

about a one mile run and then a few minutes in the water to get the wetsuit ready.
Swim
  • 35m 22s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Probably swam an extra 200 yds because of my inability to sight correctly. Would get into a rhythm and then notice that there was no one around me. I'd look up and realize that I was at least 20 yds off course.
Felt good about the physical aspects of the swim though.
What would you do differently?:

Practice sighting! If I would look up more often I might have dropped two to three minutes off of my overall time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 58s
Comments:

Didn't have chance to practice wetsuit removal, so it was just do what I could to get it off. Then I wasn't too sure what to do with it once it was off.
What would you do differently?:

Get the wetsuit earlier and practice T1 a lot!
Bike
  • 1h 16m 26s
  • 25 miles
  • 19.62 mile/hr
Comments:

Had plenty of opportunities to practice this course as my house is actually on it. Was concerned about being called for drafting as I kept same pace with two other riders and would often change places
What would you do differently?:

Probably not ride so hard. Think I overdid it and paid for it on the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Was pretty well smoked by this time and it showed. I took too long to put the shoes on and get going.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down on the bike more towards the end and catch my breath.
Run
  • 52m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Wanted a sub 8 minute mile. But just couldn't find the energy. My legs were totally spent by the finish
What would you do differently?:

Get my injuries worked through early on and run more for training.
Post race
Warm down:

A bottle of water and a twenty minute stand in line for massage

What limited your ability to perform faster:

injuries. I need to be able to run faster

Event comments:

Overall very good race. Great post race activities and food. Would help to have more pre-race info/meetings and possibly a USAT officials brief.

Great job, George!  I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who was tired by the time the run rolled around.  That bike course is tough!!  Hopefully we'll see you around at more races, and definitely in Chattanooga!

Great race George! That bike ride tapped me out too, but your bike splits were awesome! Nice seeing you down there. Congrats on a strong race!

Great race George. I do not really care about the run or the swim, but I wish I could ride a bike as well as you. I am working on it. You should come ride with us some time. I will let you know when we go up and ride the gaps.
