Pre-race routine:

Drove down from columbus that morning with noah, ate a banana and peanut butter on the way out the door and stopped about 30 min from the race and got some coffee and a rice crispies treat (i know, not ideal but at that time in the morning it sounded good).

Got there and made it through the normal lines without trouble and got my stuff setup.
Event warmup:

I went for a quick 10 min run to get things loosend up and then headed over to the pool to get my wetsuit on and then went for a 5 min swim. Threw in a

Comments:

Swim went well, i got out fast and sat in 3rd place coming around the first bouy, drafting off of the guy in 2nd. after we rounded that bouy he either slowed a bit or i sped up and i passed him by the next turn, and moved into 2nd and open water. from there i was alone unill midway through lap 2 when i started catching up to the another wave.

came out of the water next to one guy from wave 2, tied for 2nd at the point
What would you do differently?:

work on short course speed.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

the run to T1 was longish, which i like, gives me a chance to get my legs back under me and get my HR down a little, and get the suit most of the way off. once i got into T1 i threw my helmet and sunglasses on, grabbed my bike and took off, once past the mount line i was on and slid my feet into my shoes with no trouble
What would you do differently?:

nothing, i had the fastest T1 there.

Comments:

Bike went great; i made it up to speed by the first turnaround and was cruising on the way back from there, as we came back past the park the guy that came out of the water with me passed me for the first time, and from there we played a cat and mouse game through the rest of the bike pushing each other the whole way back. i would pass him, he would drop back 40-50 feet, then he was come past me and i would drop back. neither one of us could shake the other, but in the end it helped push us both. made the ride go much faster than last year.
What would you do differently?:

not much, i rode as hard as i could, just need to get faster
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

T2 went great, in and out in the fastet T2 time:-D
What would you do differently?:

run a little faster
Run
  • 20m 17s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 06m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

the run was harder for me because i was running alone through most of it. i passed a few people, but other than that i was by myself the whole time. skipped the aid stations, it was only a 3 mile run and i have had issues with drinking during shorter/harder runs in the past.
What would you do differently?:

train more at this speed
Post race
Warm down:

Should have done more here

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of sleep and short course speed work

Event comments:

This was only my 2nd triathlon ever last year, and i have come a long way since then. i will deff be back next year.
