Got mine last evening as well. Tried it on, and it seemed to fit pretty well. If felt pretty tight, but I'm guessing that's how it's supposed to fit. Thanks again Coredump

Sounds like a broken record around here. I too got my suit in the mail yesterday. Can't really comment on the fit since I've never used one before. Do have a couple questions you guys could help me out with. The opening at the bottom of the legs are a little small for my big Dutch feet, is it possible to have a seamstress cut that so its open a little more or is this a bad road to go down. Also, how about care and storage for these things. What's the best way to store them? Is there anything you need to do to keep the rubber in good shape? How about after a race? Thanks, for all the help!

Someone told me that it's easier to put your wetsuit on if you have a pair of socks on first. Then take the socks off after you get the suit on. I don't know if you got the Xterra or not. But this is from their website on care: http://www.xterrawetsuits.com/wetsuits/care.html. I'll bet if you did a search on google for wetsuit care, you might find some additional information.

Yes - you are right. When you put it on on dry land it should feel very tight. Mine is nearly to the point of being uncomfortable. Once in the water it feels like it 'loosens' up, though, and it is very comfortable to swim in. I love my Vortex!

Wowzers again. Glad to be able to help out. That what this site is about.

Regarding the care and feeding of your wetsuit, you'll want to first make sure it is dry. Never store it wet.

It's better to store it by hanging it, on a nice thick hanger. You want to prevent creases from forming in the neoprene, which you will get if you fold it. Same with using a thick hanger. You don't want to use a wire hanger, as that will put creases/dents in the shoulders. A thick hanger like you would use to hang a suit jacket is what you want.

If you wore it in anything other than fresh water ( salt water, chlorinated pool ), make sure it is well rinsed ( and dried again! ) before you store it. It's also important to make sure you protect the outside of it, so that you don't knick it with fingernails, etc.

Not a good idea to keep it in your car on hot days, either. And avoid petroleum based lubricants - go instead with body glide or some other non-petroleum based product.

Chris

A plastic grocery bag works well too, and might slide off easier once you've got the suit on over it. Use it for both your feet and your hands. Put it over one foot, pull that leg through, take the bag off, on to the other foot, repeat.

I tried this for the first time this last weekend in my first 1/2 IM and it worked great. Luckily they don't count getting into your wetsuit in your total time, or I'd be dead last every time. But the plastic bag definitely made it a lot easier and faster for me.

SCORE!!!! Just got my vortex today, ordered it monday; wow! that's quick, THAT'S A BIG THANK YOU TO COREDUMP!!
Tried it on a couple of times for fit, definately snug, but what I'm reading thats to be expected. My second time around I was real careful to get all the part of the suit in the right places ( with no sags anywhere) and that made quite a difference it seemed to give more room to the chest area which seemed at first the most restricted. Cant wait to get in the water with it. I'll have to test it out before my race 10/2

Got mine too and I'm so impressed with it - woohoo!!

It took me like 10 minutes to wriggle into it, but once on I think it fit OK - I could breath just fine even though it is definately more snug than the scuba suits I'm used to wearing! Taking it for a test run in open water tomorrow morning

I got my Ironman Instinct on Tuesday after ordering Thursday afternoon. As soon as I got home, I stripped down to the boxers and got it on. Went out to the pool - wow does it feel fast. I let some water down into the suit...got the momentary cold shock as the cold water got down to the boys, then everything just started warming up. I've been swimming in normal old swim trunks. When I swam in this thing I couldn't believe that not only did I glide through the water much more smoothly, but my legs kept floating up to the surface. Weird feeling to have that extra bouyancy. Now my gut on the other hand still has plenty of fat around it so it didn't feel too much different. Getting out of the suit was wild too. The water coming out of the suit felt hot. Very very cool. Thanks again Chris!!!!

I got mine in the mail yesterday and the zipper was either broken or broke soon as I put it on. I was so angry. I have a race next Sunday so I didn't have time to send it back. I took it down to REI to see of they could fix the zipper...Oh I hope so.

I might send it back after the race unless REI can fix it 100%. I was hoping to test it out this weekend.
