Check out www.getsetaz.com under multi-sport. TRi-family racing (www.trifamilyracing.com ) is supposed to schedule at least one more sprint during the summer in Phoenix.  Other than that, just follow this board.

As for training, it guess it depends on which part of town you're in. We appear to be all over. I do recommend an OWS with the ESCKTC - - once you past their hazing ritual.

I'm in Central Phx and I tend to bike (my weakest leg) along the canals. No vehicle traffic or stop lights.

Heh Heh TOM the hazing is nothing to be afraid of! *wink* YES OWS is worthwhile with us, as is a bike ride here and there!

I know some people are doing Zoot at Lake Pleasant this summer (OUCH HOT) But I will be sticking to Mountain Man and waiting out the summer heat. I hear rumours there will be a tri family race in early July that I might try to do as well.

If I can get through the ESCKTC hazing, anyone can.

They made me swim with my suit on my head and then do the run afterward with a pink tu-tu.

Was very embarrasing, but I did get a phone number from "Big Jake", the guy who makes his living combing the beach with his metal detector.

Ok so we're not able to travel everywhere for the triathlons, but I am completely addicted. This is my first Tri season and I am loving it. Anyone able to tell me if there are any more tris in Tempe this summer before Timex/Soma? What tris are you Phoenix area residents are you planning on doing this summer? I'm also interested in finding some people to train with (on a less regular basis b/c I am a stay at home mom with limited outside baby sitting)...I'm kind of mid level...great swimmer...good runner...lousy biker (or maybe I should say inexperienced)...if anyone is interested let me know...

For a short sprint (400 m pool swim) as a warm up on July 29th there is Chances for Children fundraiser Tri. The web site is here: http://www.chancesforchildrenaz.com/templates/index.php

Also, Flagstaff is just up I-17 on July 22 and has Sprint, Olympic, and 70.3

Wow, planning races and training in the summer heat in Phx??? I get dizzy just thinking about your temps. Doing anything more than lifting the ice tea glass would kill me. But then you guys probably have thinner blood and are more used to it. Anyway, keep cool! At least you don't have to deal with snow the other half of the year...

Other half of the year? I thought you were in Flagstaff. They had some snow this year, but hasn't it been pretty bare the last few years?

You never have to shovel sunshine!

Well, yeah, not much the last two winters but 04/05 we had 4 ft in 48 hrs! I had to shovel myself out of the front door to even have a look at it all--and take pictures. It was even too much to go x-country skiing. But you're right, I was probably exaggerating in my last post I was just amazed at the OP about racing now. I'm so wimpy I'll wait until 7 p.m. tonight before I go running because it's still in the upper 70's and too hot now...

I moved here from Alaska a couple years ago and went to college in Flagstaff.

I've never had a winter as miserable as the summers are here!  Snow is great.  You can play in the snow.  Alaska could be very rough because we lived in a rain forest with 3x the rain of Seattle and TONS of snow.  Not to mention, we were a 6 hour boat ride to the nearest town, and then another 6 hour drive after that if we wanted to see a movie, have fast food or go shopping LOL.  I find the unbearable heat and insane traffic here to be a worse combination than wet/cold and isolation.

115 degree heat is impossible to do anything in except lay around in your own sweat and misery.   I have a 3 year plan to be able to leave this place in the summer.  Thank GOD!!

I'll do that!  I was supposed to ride up with a group of friends last weekend, but I had work commitments instead.

My folks have a cabin between Parks and Williams I need to get up to and spend some time at this summer also.  We started building it 35 years ago.  Love the place!!

 Flagstaff is an awesome town.

Do you ride wearing the Pink tutu? If so, it must be shaft driven to keep the frills out of the chain!

hehe.  No, but if we don't win the swim challenge, then YOU and I will both be RUNNING in one the Thursday after the challenge is over.

You thought you were being funny huh? Didn't ya?  Little did you know that was why Robot and I have our Avatars wearing TuTu's.  You MIGHT want to go strap on a pair of goggles and get swimming! LOL!!

That being said; will be we graced with your presence again Thursday?  Your TuTu fitting is scheduled for then :-

My gut is telling me this is a rookie question, but ESCKTC -- is that the group of you that I see on here all the time? Whats the story? And when is the next OWS?

ESCKTC = East Side Cool Kids Tri Club!

Greatest group of people you will ever meet.  PM Stands with Fist about locations of OWS or see that thread and plan to bring Barley Pops (Beer).

I do not swim, but chase the group side stroke around bouys anyway.  The mountain man Tri was my most fun race becuse we were a group of freinds cheering each other on (always nice to know otheres on race day) as well as prefunctioning with pasta the day before.

Ok...just for you Jeremiah.....the history of the ESCKTC

Last March the Thursday before my first OWS tri, Mikeg123 offered to go OWS with me at Butcher Jones Cove at Saguaro lake so I could shake my nerves a bit.  After that we kept meeting up together for OWS once a week. His dad came to town from England and he stopped coming. At the very same time, Robin314159 wanted to OWS so she joined me. Then SportyJ and Robot, Cordova61 and hjmiii joined in and we sort of started making it an every Thursday night thing.  RioRio and TriGuyFitz have joined us from time to time. Bhannas is an honorary member through BT. (Whether he wants to be or not! :-) And now CactusTriathlete, Jerry_Perkins, PaulettoJo, Dieathlon have become regulars too.  Steve0480 and his roommate Micah even grace us with their presence from time to time.  SauseEnte is an honorary member, as she lives in Flag, but accept her as a Cool Kid just the same.  We even usually have a kayaker with us.  So every Thursday night at 5:15 we meet up to OWS, and then most of us strap our shoes on and run around 2.5 - 4 miles down the road and back to get some hill work in. (Hard to come by).  Then we also hang around and drink whatever anyone brought (new people bring beer) and sometimes people even bake goodies!!!  We also will sometimes get together for Sunday morning bike/breakfast bricks!!!

The name....East Side Cool Kids Tri Club was kind of formed as a joke.  We were kind of being anti AZTriClub, and were happy forming our own little group.  Not to bash AZTriClub....as I like those guys and occasionally train with them....we just liked our own little group and had to come up with a name.  It was kind of a spoof.  Something goofy, and the acronym ESCKTC is almost impossible to remember and does not form a word you can say.  It's just goofy....like us!!!

Did I leave anything or anyone out?

I have yet to actually go to an OWS with everyone because of work and lack of a wetsuit (and subsequent fear of drowning... I actually have a wetsuit but it is a canyoneering wetsuit and too hot to use)... but I do live on the east side and bum around. I used to work with robin314159 (who got me into tris and is now cavorting around the world) and I met a few of you at her going-away party. I will get out for an OWS one of these days and bring the beery goodness, as beery goodness is one of my favorite things. I also live right by Tempe Town Lake, so if anyone ever wants to run there let me know.

Sometimes when I am tipsy ESCKTC looks like "ecstasy". I guess you could say it like that if you had dyslexia or a speech impediment.

Hmm... I didn't get said list but I only registered last night. How many people are there in the F 25-29 group? (I think that is PauletteJo's AG too but I'm not even going to try to catch her ).

I just can't bring myself to do a race in this heat. I'm a wimp

I think I will do the Du (or BI) at Luke AFB in August- I found out it is free to enter. It's short (400m swim, 9 mi bike) but will be good transition practice (I suck at T1).
