Sunny
Total Time = 1h 03m 48s
Overall Rank = 60/288
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 5/19
Pre-race routine:

Following my 'way too short' warm up run I spent the next half hour in the port-a-john. This was a new developement for me because I've never had this happen before. In hindsight my breakfast choice was less than par.
Event warmup:

2 mile run. I should have gotten on the bike for at least 30' but I ran out of time. I also should have spent some time in the water because My arms weren't ready for the effort either. Oh Well, it was a 'C' race and I will use this info for Buffalo Springs.
Swim
  • 11m 58s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Warm up was poor and the race was too short to build into my speed. I had a lot of trouble getting into a rythem.
What would you do differently?:

Longer warm up and relax.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
What would you do differently?:

Not much, this went pretty well. Some well placed body glide will help me get my suit off easier, but that's not new information.
Bike
  • 27m 42s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Poor warm up caused me to blow up on the first hill and I spent the rest of the ride trying to make up for it. This was NOT the best that I can do.

I think I might have lost at least a minute here!
What would you do differently?:

Warm up before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Several things went wrong here. My piss poor nutrition choices before the race came back to me here. I was able to get one shoe on before my other calf cramped up so bad that I fell down. A contributing factor to this was that my shoe laces were too tight and made it really tough to get my shoes on. In hindsight I should have simply grabbed my shoe and walked it off on the course instead of laying on my back in transition screaming about it. In my defense, I have never cramped that bad in my life! This was not a stellar moment.
What would you do differently?:

Eat better before the race and warm up more substantially.
Run
  • 21m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Even if the course was short, this was huge for me. I only got passed by a few people and they were ended up on the podium for their age groups. I didn't let anyone pass me that was in my age group. The ones that beat me were already in front when I started the run.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little in T2 and loosen my laces. My feet were going numb. (new laces two days before the race = dumb!)
Post race
Warm down:

Walked it off for a bit and had a beer. Only in Triathlon can you justify a beer at 10:00am.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor nutrition.

Event comments:

It was good to get this before my big race but it is not one that I would lose a lot of sleep over.

Nice work and good lessons learned.  Take them with you and don't repeat them.  I did the same thing as you with new laces - night before but I erred on the side of a tad too loose.

Keep building and have a great season!

You drink a six pack of Budweiser the night before or what? That sucks about the pre-race issues and cramping in T2. All things considered though, for a C race it was still pretty good. And considering that Framke and Cody both decided to show up for this (an odd race for them but all part of racing I guess), not a bad AG finish by any means.

Beer before 11:00 needs no justification.  Good race.  Sorry about the cramping.

Going from your times it looks like you were flying. If you didn't mention it in the write up I'd have no idea, nice race.

So are you not going to disclose what your pre-race nutrition was??? Now I'm all curious!!

Nice race, despite the troubles - smoking run!!

Nice RACE, buddy! Sorry we didn't meet up (I've seen your name bounced around here quite a bit) but on paper you had a smokin' race. If it wasn't all you could do, take away those EFFING hills and THEN get out there and play! THOSE SUCKED!!

Yes, beer before 10am is always a nice thing. At races, that is.....
