Comments:

Horrible, just horrible. I was toast by 5 miles for no good reason. Incredibly frustrating run considering how many 9-12 milers I have under my belt with no problems. I can't even talk about it without getting pissed off. Just gutted out 8 miles, walked a couple times between 10 and 12. There were times my legs wouldn't cooperate to pull my HR up out of the basement. I hated this race by the time I finished, 20 minutes later than I'd hoped.

I just don't know what's going on with me. The more I work, the worse my performances are.

Event comments:

As far as I was concerned, there weren't nearly enough aid stations for us BOP'ers. 5 aid stations? 1.5, 4, 6, 8, and 11 miles. I was really dehydrated by the end of the run.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK.

Methinks you are being a tad bit harsh on yourself.

This is your first half marathon!

You finished it, without incident, and without injury. That was the plan.

The race director should have known to have more aid stations... perhaps even something with food available... Hmmmmpf. That's disappointing. Next time... and there will be a next time... bring your own bottle. I've got one of those hand grabber things... straps onto your hand so you don't have to grip the bottle the whole time while you're running. I take it with me anytime I'm going anywhere over 45 minutes. You can even put a gel or two in the pockets.

I am proud of you. You executed your plan. Finished without injury. Next time you can worry about your time. This time it was about getting across the line. Now you know you can do it. Laughing Next time you can work on improving your baseline, and setting a new PR.

I know all about being hard on myself. It's so not worth it. It's exhausting and mentally draining. Treat yourself like you'd treat your best friend.

Now smile, Dammit. Kiss

Amanda.....hugs.....hmmm not the kind of race report I was hoping for.

You did it though...ran your first 1/2 Mary...way to go!

It is frustrating when a race doesn't go as planned. Hopefully you can learn something so next time it will be different. Do you think dehydration was the issue or something else?

I always do 6+ mile races bringing my own hydration as I can't do that run/drink from a cup thing worth beans.

Hope to see you at some races this summer....be well...you did it....cool!

I'm always totally serious about hydration, always have my amphipod with me on my long runs and drink religiously. I made the executive decision to get my hydration just from the aid stations on this run so I wouldn't have to carry all that fluid with me and just took a couple-few gels with me, instead. Clearly the wrong decision, which is okay. Live and learn. But there was something else besides dehydration going on, I think, which I'm still trying to decipher.
