Total Time = 5h 02m
Overall Rank = 262/2250
Age Group = M40-45
Age Group Rank = 50/284
Pre-race routine:

wafe up 3:45, shower, eat 2 oatmeal, beagle, 1/2 cut coffee. Get to race site by 5:30, wave start my wave at 6:39. Had plenty of time to set up transition and get ready.
Event warmup:

Very odd, no swim warmup allowed. This wes not posted so I had to do some light jogging on the beach to warmup. I typically do a 500-700 yard swim warmup.
Swim
  • 32m 43s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Slower waves went out first and the first group of M40-45, ALOT of passing and swimming around, much more than usual. Probably slowed me down 1.5 minutes. Goggles foggged up (that's a first for me), had to stop for 4 or 5 seconds to clear. Was really quite dark at the start of my wave, can't imagine what it was like for the Pro's who went off 19 minutes earlier.
What would you do differently?:

anti-fog on the goggles, find out about the warmup thing the day before.
Transition 1
  • 04m 6s
Comments:

transition was at least a 1/4 mile jog, had to put socks on for the bike due to new shoes giving me bisters. Pretty slow transition
Bike

Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

pretty good t2, already had on socks so saved that time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 36m 25s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

had to make a pit stop on my 12 (first time for this also), due to stomach cramps. Ran with gel flash in hand do to accessive bouncing in my back pocket, wasn't too bad, but would prefer to have gel packs to keep hands free. Could have shaved 3 more minute off run if I didn't have to stop.
What would you do differently?:

I had too much left at the end, could have pushed more. The stop at mile 12 definitely wasn't in the plan.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

stomach cramps, could have been too much gel in late stages of run, but I don't think so.

winds picked up about mile 40, got caught in a big pack and was called for drafting penalty (my first) while being passed (major suck). Had to stop on the bike for a "pit stop" (first time for that as well). I was really concerned about hydration being an early season race. Stayed well hydrated.
