Subject: Cycling Clubs/Groups in Vancouver?
Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to posting on the forums, but I usually sneak and lurk around most of the time, and drop a comment here and there!

I live at UBC in Vancouver, and have been looking for a cycling group for some time. I tried the Vancouver Cycling club, but apparently they don't offer the type of program I'm looking for with regards to intensity. I come from an exclusive swimming background (Varsity last year, all through high school etc.) and I NEED to work on my biking program. I have only participated in one triathlon (UBC Olympic distance) and my biking was what REALLY held me back. I've tried to train solo, but for some reason I just can't do it as well as I can with running. For my running, I'm participating in a clinic at the Running Room which looks promising, but my running is almost on par with my swimming ability, so it's most definitely not my main problem. My time for the 40km at the UBC tri was 1:26, and I'm looking to improve that dramatically!

I just REALLY need help on the bike! Any advice/suggestions/training plans/ANYTHING is greately appreciated!!

Thanks a TON
Derek

It sounds like you have great fitness and just need to log some miles on the bike.  Most of the guys in cycling clubs are quite fast.  You might want to try a triathlon club instead.  You'll have a broader range of people you can ride with, and you will be able to 'move up' as your biking improves.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I haven't had the chance to go through those cycling BC club listings yet, but I think that it might be a good idea to find a Tri club since I'm really not very strong on the bike!

I guess the logical question is now whether there are any Tri clubs (other then the UBC Tri club) out in my area!

Thanks a lot guys!

Try going to the tribc and the drop down box says club information.

www.tribc.org

there is a drop down box at the top on your left hand side.
It has clubs throughout bc.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Crazypop!

Much appreciated! I looked through local Vancouver tri clubs and found one that is located near to me. Thanks for the comment on my race report too!

I know I definitely need to work on my cycling

Thanks again!

Hey Derek,

I go out training 5-6 times a week. You should come along! I met you at Panorama, right (I swam behind you in the last heat.)?

Unfortunately my bike screwed up and was out of the race for 20mins, losing my first place!

I am on Team Coastal and it is a really good club for beginners. We have lot of rides. There are lots of bike clubs and teams in the Lower Mainland, so if you are looking for a bike club, you should be able to find one you like.

For tri clubs, you should check out the Pacific Spirit Tri club. I've ridden with those guys a few times in the fall and they are a good bunch of people. There are definitely all ability levels there. Let us know if you join a club or the names of some you are checking out. I can probably put you in touch with a few people in the club.
