Total Time = 1h 25m 24s
Overall Rank = ?/
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 9/41
Pre-race routine:

bagel with PB, banana, gel before swim. I forgot to pick up my Einstein's Power Bagel, so I had to suffer with a King Soopers one...poor me.
Event warmup:

Rode our bikes from the house to the race. That was so nice!
Swim
  • 08m 44s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim, well paced, had to pass one person. Felt as if I gave 90% effort. My flip turns were pretty poor though.
What would you do differently?:

Practice streamlined flip turns.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

My wet feet and shoes slipped out of transition and I couldn't get me feet ON the pedals, none-the-less, IN the pedals. I can speed this up A LOT
Bike
  • 44m 19s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.60 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a nice course. I could hold my own on flats and kill the competition on downhills, but I need hill work.
What would you do differently?:

Train more hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Smooth and fluid T2, except all the guys who racked before me hogged my spot, so I ended up just leaning my bike against their uber-nice ORBEA and CERVELO.
Run
  • 28m 53s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt GREAT on this run. My legs transitioned well and they felt good the entire time. I really feel like I pushed myself and used my "childbirth is harder" mantra well. It was so much fun to push, knowing I only had to do 3 miles.

My girls were also on the course and ran a small way with me. It was great to see their little legs pumping so hard to keep up.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little bit sooner, I had a tiny bit left at the end of the race.
Post race
Warm down:

walked back and cheered on the rest of the pack.

Event comments:

This is a do-over. I forgot how much fun sprints can be. You just get out, get movin', and get 'er done!

I had my actual in water time as 8:04, which was spot on for what I expected to do. There was a bit of a run to the mat, and I think that is where the extra time came in.

Course: pool swim. I was the first swimmer in the lane, so I didn't get to draft anyone. I kept waiting for the guy behind to pass me, but he couldn't quite do it.

Course: 2 loops of hilly course. Started out with a nice 1 mile downhill which was great out of transition, followed by about 3 miles of climbing, then a FAST downhill for 2 miles. It was AWESOME flying by transition/finish area on the first lap going 29 mph with all the people watching. I felt fast! The total elevation gain was 600 feet for the whole course.

Good job Mel.  Looked like things went really well.  And yes that is extremely cool to ride to the race.   See you at the lake.
