Giver 18427 | Subject: RE: BT: Please tell me about Atlanta superfuzz - 2007-06-06 2:44 PM Thanks, everyone. I'd be working at a place that appears to be close to Piedmont Hospital...or so Google Maps would have me believe. Ahhh...you'd be within really short commuting distances from lots of great neighborhoods...Peidmont Park, Virginia Highlands, Buckhead, Little 5 Points. And yes...hilly, but totally doable on a bike (I commuted by bike in that neighborhood for 5 years). Interestingly, Peidmont Hospital sits atop "Cardiac Hill", the toughest stretch of the Peachtree Road Race. |

I'd be working at a place that appears to be close to Piedmont Hospital...or so Google Maps would have me believe. Of course, "good" and "bad" are relative to everyone's understanding of the words, but I'd rather not live in an area where I'm going to have my car stolen or feel scared while biking to work at 4:30 a.m. If I do decide to make the move, I'd want to (at least attempt) to ride my bike as much as possible...and this might be a stupid question, but is the city hilly? Pittsburgh is like a mini-San Francisco when compared to some cities as far as hills go. Piedmont Hospital is a good area. You could get a place on Peachtree-Battle or Habersham Road (That's a joke. It is the ritziest neighborhood in town). PH is sort of midway between Buckhead and Midtown. You could live either place. I live near Piedmont Park in Midtown. There are literally thousands of apartments and condos. All price ranges. Just stay north of Ponce. You'll be fine. Atlanta is somewhat hilly but nothing very steep or long. It just isn't flat. Similar to most of Pittsburgh, but there's nothing comparable to Mount Washington. TW |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: BT: Please tell me about Atlanta I rented a nice apt (gated community) just North of Perimeter mall which is about 5mins from Piedmont Hospital. Front entrance was off Abernathy (exit off 400) and the back entrance was off Perimeter Center W (I think). There were a number of nice apt complexes in/around this area. Nearest Whole Foods store was less than 15mins away in Sandy Springs. World Market was very nearby, too. Publix (grocery store) and PetCo within 5 mins, as well as a movie complex and two Marta stations. LA Fitness and Sports Authority in same center as the movie theaters. Oh, and a nice little French restaurant where they had great breakfast and lunch. |

Edit: Still, it's a great part of town to live in for starters. Easily accessible via 285 and 400. I commuted to Norcross and it didn't suck too much. Edited by Renee 2007-06-06 2:28 PM |

You could live close like on Collier or Northside Dr. I run Collier a lot and it is perfect for commuting. Given that location you could live in Marietta and have an easy commute down 75 too |

What's OTP? If he jumps on 400 at Abernathy he avoids the whole Perimeter Mall thing. |

Hey, I resemble that remark...errr, meant to say, "better OTP than ITP with a bunch of libs and freaks!" Actually during my 20+ years in Atlanta, I've lived in several areas of Atlanta - Emory/Virginia-Highlands areas, Dunwoody/Sandy Springs, Buckhead, and now Alpharetta...it's all good and there are great people/great things to do/etc in all of them... |

When we first moved to Atlanta, we lived in Dunwoody and then Roswell. After college, I lived in Vinings and then Druid Hills. And you're right...nice people everywhere. To me, it's extremely key to live as close as possible to where you work (wherever that may be), otherwise you'll spend half your life in your car. |

Alpharetta, on the other hand, is like living in NC. not anymore...when I lived in Buckhead a number of years ago, I played in a golf tourney @ White Columns...when I exited 400 - two things struck me...the smell (chicken coops) and the lack of civilization...the area was rural, rural, rural... fast forward to today...it's Buckhead North...and during non-rush hour, it's a quick pop down to Buckhead, not too much further to the city, and the entire N. Georgia and beyond (including NC!) is easily accessible... Edited by LHablas 2007-06-06 3:27 PM |
