If you're really wanting to save $, get better gas mileage, tow some stuff and haul your tri gear, check out the new Toyota RAV4.

263 horsepower v6
>= 25 mpg
Optional 3rd row seating for kids (or people you don't like )

and you can get one for less than $30g's.

My sister is employed in the skilled trades, and she drives one of those 4-door Nissan Frontier pickups and gets surprisingly decent gas mileage. She even tows her RV travel trailer with it, and she's into bow hunting - so I'm guessing the truck is sufficient for carrying lots of stuff.

Although I like the Element, I am partial to the FJ Cruiser, too. It's been tough to rein myself in from getting a new car lately. But, when I look at gas prices and think about the fact I have free access to public transportation it makes selling my CR-V & going carless seem appealing, too.

Thanks for all the replies.  I guess I should have said a price willing to pay and other info.  First off the Toyota FJ does look pretty cool, but out of what I'm willing to spend, plus I want better gas mileage.  I would never buy a new vehicle, I just don't think it's worth the money and depreciation when you drive it off the lot.  I'm really kind of leaning towards a Toyota Rav4 or a Honda C.R.V.  I really like the Honda Pilot, but my wife has one of those and we don't really want to have two of the same vehicles, not sure why, just don't.

I love my CR-V! It gets 26-27 MPG, and holds my bikes - along with tons of junk. What more could I ask for?

Check out the new Jeep Patriot as well. You can get one fully decked out for around $24,000, but a base model will be more like $18,000. They get great gas mileage, and have plenty of room for your bike or other gear. They are pretty comparable to the CRV, and RAV-4.
