I have done the race before. It is a great race.

The swim is very brisk as you swim into the mouth of the river to exit!
The climb out of transition and back into transition is steep but short and the rest of the ride is basically flat.

The run is slightly uphill going out and slightly down coming back in.

If you bring the family, there is not much for them to do at the race site.

I guess I should have asked if you had done the race before!

I haven't done the race before this will be my first Oly.  Tripastor, In your opinion is this a good first Oly to do?  I've done 1 sprint and I'll be doing my 2nd sprint in 2 weeks then I'll have about 2 months to train for Lake Logan.

Mel,

This is a great race! You'll love it and it will be a perfect first venue. The lake swim is beautiful , albeit quite brisk as you swim under the bridge into the mouth of the river for the swim exit. The bike is really very flat (except for the steep but short climb out of transition and the longer steep climb coming back to T2. the run is mostly shaded. Great, great race. SetUp Events does a terrific job with this race!

Last year the weather was very mild, a little overcast. Perfect, just perfect!

What was your first sprint, and what is your next sprint?

You'll have plenty of time to train in those two months!

Sounds great!  My first tri was in Rock Hill May 19th and my 2nd will be Latta Plantation Tri on June 17th.  I've been seriously training since Feb with a group in Fort Mill and a smaller group of us continue to train together so we all motivate each other.  One of the guys in the group is going to do Lake Logan and we trying to talk one of the other people in our group to do it. Do you have any recommendations on where to stay in the area?

You'll love Latta, it is a great race. Running on the trails is nice when it is this warm. Good luck this weekend!

Excellent!  It was a lot of fun.  I really didn't have any set goals just to have fun and finish.  I need to get over being afraid of being kicked and kicking people in the swim.  That slowed me down a lot.  I felt really good on the bike, I love passing people.  I'm psyched for Lake Logan.  The only part I don't feel confident about is the run.  I haven't run a 10k before so this will be a first.

When is your next race?

Mel,

Glad to hear it went well for you. You will absolutely love Lake Logan. I'd rent a wetsuit if you don't have one for this race since it is longer and last year the water was pretty brisk coming back into the mouth of the river to exit the water. The run is longer but relatively flat and pretty shaded.

I race Saturday at Swiss Pine. I'm looking forward to it even though it will be a lot of climbing on the run and the bike.

Welcome to BT.

Have fun this weekend at Triangle. I hear the water quality isn't great so don't be caught off guard. Having said that, everyone I know who has done the race keeps going back so it can't be too bad.

You'll love Logan, it is a great first Oly.

You were right on about the water quality. It was 92 degrees and quite murky.

The race felt good. It was my first USAT event and I was quite impressed at the scale (1100 racers) and organization of the whole thing. I got my nutrition and pacing all wrong. I felt uneasy on the stomach pretty much the whole time. I am pretty sure it wasn't nerves. I should have pushed myself a lot harder. I had a lot left over by the run. I had a gel with 3 miles left on the bike, and burped it up the first half of the run. The second half I took off, i must have passed 50 folks on that last mile. I wish they did mile splits. Anyway, it was a great experience. I had a blast.

Bet I am one of those you past in the last mile. Nothing left in the tank at the finish. Someday pacing myself on the bike will come to mind when it matters, like in T1!!
