Being inconsistent in training

Not improving your technique...we all know how to run/swim don't we?

Going to far to fast

Copying what others do instead of having our own plan

BUT .... that can also be developed doing that activities you are training for .....

My wife said no seasoned triathletes have butts so you can't qualify your statement when you don't have a but.

Actually, I can tell you from dating a former triathlete that in fact, yes, they do have butts - albeit nice, small, muscular ones. My ex was hard-core (he was nationally ranked in his late teens/early 20s, was training for Olympic tryouts for Athens in 04 until he busted a knee)and he had NO fat on him, anywhere (seriously, his body fat percentage was will into the single digits) And he had quite a nice posterior...

GrantGannon - 2007-06-06 12:56 PM . I focus mostly on the areas I'll use for triathlon. My trainer is aware of this as well. We do a lot of triceps, shoulders, quads and hamstrings. Oh...and squats too.

Warning, Noob question - I understand quads and hamstrings, shoulders I could see. But how are triceps used for triathon?

I do not that you need to make your triceps any stronger but you definitely should work on their endurance (not saying you need to do this with weights). When finishing a proper swim stroke you use a lot of tricep muscles. If you don't believe me.......do some rear sculling and let me know how your triceps feel!! A 4x50 should do the trick.

sebjamesm - 2007-06-06 4:40 PM ---consuming 600 calories an hour during swim, bike, and run training. Eating 4 gels for a sprint.

Personally, nutrition during a sprint or race of equivalent time length has been a waste, with the exception of maybe a shot of water here and there to keep the throat and mouth wet.

My other contribution to this thread is very personalized to me.  Practicing transitions are a waste for me.  I prefer to spend a few extra seconds in transition because I feel like I run better afterward.  I don't take off with my helmet on my head, my shoes not on fully, or without having taken a quick drink of water.  I have seen too many people running around like chickens with their heads cut off because they're trying to save every possible second in the T area.  It's mostly advantageous for me psychologically, but practicing transitions was a waste for me.  I only practiced transitions twice, and I'll never do it again.

Curious. Wouldn't practicing transitions alleviate the whole chicken with no head thing? I found that to become profficient at something, practice is worthwhile and transitions are FREE time in my book.

I was just thinking the same thing.  Usually the chicken running around thing is for the people who haven't practiced transitions.

I guess I didn't get my intended meaning across.  I should have said "ditto"  I understood your post.  Considering the sensitive nature of this post, I was merely trying to voice my support for your comment while making it clear that that is a personal trick in case someone that disagrees felt like I was making a blanket statement.  I wasn't intending to sound like I was refuting you while not understanding what you originally intended.

Yeah, probably, but for me, I'm not going to spend time right now working on cutting a few seconds off of transition time when I can spend that time focused on the disciplines where I can make probably cut off even more time.  While I agree it's free time, I'm not even close to your level performance-wise, so working on transitions may help, but it won't help me improve near as much as spending a few extra miles on the bike, in the pool, or on the road.  I can see where in your case it would make more sense to focus on efficient transitions, but in my case, 10-15 more minutes doing one of the three disciplines will do more for my performance than will practicing transitions.

Fair enough. Try incorporating them into your brick workouts, gives you chance to kinda put it all together.

Not eating enough to fuel your workouts in an attempt to lose weight is NOT helpful.
