Just got done talking to my brother who completed IM AZ this year. I was giving him a hard time about not getting a tatoo. He brought up that since I am competing in the XTERRA worlds this year if I finish we will both get one. Is this a tatoo worthy race??

Now you ARE talking about the XTERRA World Championship right?  Don't know much about it and trust that you had to quality as one of the namby pamby XTERRA races to get there???

If you had to qualify to get there and you complete the course.  HECK YEAH!!!  Get that TAT!!

If you are second guessing it already, it may not be something you want on your body the rest of your life.

I don't think the "quality" of the race is the determining factor it is the meaning the race has to you.

Good luck with your decision.

I have completed 3 IMs and finally decided to get a tattoo:
Reasons:
#1: I think it looks cool!
#2: I earned it and am proud of my accomplishment
#3: It makes it very difficult to Bonk with the tat in plain site of others at the gym! It actually serves as an inspiration.

No I did not qualify for, or do Kona (although some day I hope to). A tat is a very personal decision. If it feels right for you, then go for it!!! Finishing an IM is a tattoo worthy accomplishment, regardless of your finishing time.

I don't think it matters if other people think it's tattoo worthy as long as you feel like it is worthy.  If you don't love the idea of getting a tattoo, you shouldn't do it.  For what it's worth, I think XTERRA worlds is certainly a big accomplishment.

Is there any question that you won't finish? It's an XTERRA, right? I'm not belittling the fact that you are competing in it, it's an awesome accomlishment that you are just in it. But just the way you phrase your question, 'if I finish'. I'm sure you'll finish. He probably wasn't sure if he'd finish the Ironman.

Just sayin'...

you shouldn't have to seek out the advice or approval of others in regards to your tattoo.
It's a personal decision that you need to be right with yourself.

If you are questioning it, don't do it.

First - I mirror what others think about it being a person choice.

Second - I would like to hear what the tat designs that others have gotten, having been inspired by a tri accomplishment. This might sound weird but I had a dream the other night that I was getting a tat b/c of a tri finish. I told the artist that I wanted to the internally sign of being a triathlete. Having no clue if one exists, what are some thoughts on what it could be?
