Age Group Rank = 3/5
Pre-race routine:

Ate a small breakfast (my nerves always get the better of me). Arrived at the race at 9:30 had an 11:00 heat start. Tried a powerbar gel because I hadn't eaten much - they are terrible. Felt fine in the race though.
Event warmup:

Swim warmup only. A few lengths at race speed.
Swim
  • 16m 19s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was not a great swim for me. I can do better and am not sure why my time was so slow. My training partner and I usually swim 1500m at a faster pace.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

This was only my second time doing a T1 and it was much better than last time. I could actually run from the water and to the mount line! I felt great and got moving on the bike quickly.
What would you do differently?:

I forgot my sunglasses and a stick of gum. Two very important things to me.
Bike
  • 40m 32s
  • 17.5 kms
  • 25.90 km/hr
Comments:

I gained a couple of positions on the cycle. Felt great.
What would you do differently?:

I got caught behind someone slower than me going into the wind. Didn't know if it would be advantageous to pass because it would have taken a lot of energy going into the wind. In hind-sight I would have gone for it!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I think I am going to practice taking my feet out of my shoes while coming up to the transition.
What would you do differently?:

I am thinking I'll pickup a different lacing system. Got a major calf cramp trying to put on my runners.
Run
  • 27m 53s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 35s  min/km
Comments:

I had a hard time getting my legs going in the proper run motion. It took a bit too long for them to loosen up. I had fun on the run and was please that I didn't have to walk any. This was my first time at this distance and I really wanted not to walk. I'm glad I did it!
What would you do differently?:

I think I will increase my cadence at the end of the cycle in order to loosen up my legs. Hopefully that will enable me to get "running" faster.

Event comments:

I had a lot of fun and the volunteers were very helpful and informative!
