1st HIM and I cramped all over the place. I took plenty of enduorlytes and ate a big breakfast. Drank 16oz of heed, some water and Prepetuem on bike. Stomach would not allow me to eat gel on run till half way through. Maybe I should take up Salsa dancing

It was a tough course, but an awesome race. Way to stick with it Grizdog.

Did you drink enough throughout the day, especially on the earlier part of the bike? Did you at least pee once during the race? In my case, if I'm dehydrated I have problems digesting and get cramps.

You did great. This is a tough race for sure. The run makes you work most of the way but it was nice running through the State Park. I will be in Racine as well (only 6 weeks away).

Here is a video from our local Rockford station on the race:

We saw several people getting medical attention for cramping and dehydration - many more talking about it too.  YOu were not alone in  your issues.

Congrats on finishing it man, you looked great on the bike!

It's tough for me to stomach gel on the run too.

How many endurolytes did you take, and when did you take them?

I had 2 on the bike, in addtion to some heed and whatever is in perpetuem.  On the run, I basically took 2 endurolytes at every aid station.

You stuck it out, and finished.  If you made it through Rockman, you can make it through Racine.

My first HIM was 6:15'ish.  My second HIM ( a short 5 weeks later or so ) was 5:30.  Getting that first one done and under your belt goes a long way.

I agree with coredump. I did Racine in 2005 with temp going up to 100 heat index was 110's. It was a tough race d/t the heat but the course is very doable. Easier then Rockman for sure. The run is basically flat.

You Can Do It!

Way to gut it through (pun was not intended).  It was definately a character builder of a race.

Considering just over 400 were registered and only about 289 finished.  We did good in seeing it to the end.

You'll do better at Racine and have time to work on your nutrition intake.

The more experienced would give a better guess at this, just wondering if maybe you over sugared your stomach on the bike with the Heed and Perpetuem, and perhaps more water and gel/food energy might be better served (this was recommended to me by the RD a few weeks ago and served well....I just screwed up the electolytes I think).

This race (hills and heat) was a recipe for cramps. You weren't alone. At least now you know what to do for the next race.

Way to finish on a tough day!!
