Pre-race routine:

I got setup in transition, did some stretching by my bike because people were moving and tossing things around to creat a little more space so I wanted to make sure my stuff didn't get disturbed.
Event warmup:

Used the bathroom
Swim
  • 06m 17s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was almost kicking myself for not bringing my wetsuit. But the water even though it was cold didn't bother me. I was short for breath and nothing went numb. I am glad I didn't wear the wetsuit. I did just fine without it.
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
What would you do differently?:

I was real pleased with this transition. I had no problems getting my shoes on and running with my bike. I did flub once trying to get my shoe into the pedal just outside of transition but that wasn't really a big deal and I was moving forward.
Bike
  • 41m 15s
  • 14.7 miles
  • 21.38 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a great ride today. The only problem I encountered was on two sharp corners when I was braking. My back tire felt like it was wobbling off or something weird. I had to really let up and lost some momentum but I will figure out what I have to do to avoid this from happening again.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I did pretty good in this transition to. The only problem I had is tying a small and loose knot into my shoelace. That is why I hate shoes. I was able to take care of it in just a few seconds and I was on my way.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 31m 32s
  • 4.4 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I was very pleased with my run. My shoelace only untied twice. About halfway through the run some guy ran up next to me and stuck next to me until the finish. With about 400 yds. to go he asks me if I have been passed and I said yes, about 6 people. He then asked if I was tired of being passed and I said yes, He said he was to. He said two guys are coming up on us so lets keep them off of us. I said sure. So I sprinted like hell to the finish. I probably could have run harder during the entire run but I held off a little bit because I didn't want to burn out. But I am very please with my run.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a beer and had some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just mental stuff in the run, I think I need to learn what my abilities are on the run and push myself to that extreme. I didn't let my minor setbacks throw me off.

Event comments:

This is a great race for a first timer to get use to open water while swimming in a sandy bottomed pool. I will try to get this race into my schedule each year I compete in sprints because it is a great early season race.

Course: The course was in a sandy bottomed pool that use to be a quarry. You had to do two laps in the pool. I actually liked this for a pool swim. It was so shallow in some areas that you had to walk. This would be a great swim for somebody who is afraid of open water swimming.

Great race, and to me it looks like you kicked butt on the run. Also the "event warm-up" is a given. Again great job.

I did that race to. The cold water gave me a bad swim as I was breathing like mad.

All the times look really fast, you must have a very competative age group Mike.

It's great coming away from a race like you did and feeling very satisified.

Have a great and safe week!!!!!!

Nice race.  And the 'event warmup' is not a given.  It's a given to try, just not to happen (refer to rockman race report for humor).
