Pee'd rode my bike over to transition and set up all my crap, pee'd again. jumped around and stretched a little bit. watched the other turbo donkeys take off and screamed for them and then took the plunge!
Swim
  • 05m 34s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim was great!! i was most worried about the swim but ended up passing lots of people and i felt really great except for the one time i took in a big gulp of beautiful lake water and had to cough for a little bit and get my breath back.
What would you do differently?:

keep working on my swimming, ive only been at it about 4 weeks but im very happy with my performance in the race
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

still need to work on clipping into my pedals...but otherwise transition was pretty good...could be a little faster though
Bike
  • 42m 35s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 17.51 mile/hr
Comments:

pretty good bike ride, might have been able to push it a little bit more but i was very happy coming into T2 right around 50min total. passed a bunch of people coming up the huggggge hill which made me feel great about the time i spent practicing going up that stupid thing!
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

tried to unstrap while still going which peterak suggested and i practice a little the night before haha...got both feet unstrapped and right foot came out great but left foot took the shoe with it so i ended up with one shoe off and one on so i had to pull it off and then run but it made for a fun time and a little more excitement lol
What would you do differently?:

i would like to get some zip things for my shoes so i dont need to waste time double knotting both of them
Run
  • 21m 51s
  • 2.49 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

this is where it all went down the crapper! running, probly my strongest thing coming in is what killed me in the end...as soon as i stepped off the bike i had a mega crampo in my side so i reached for a cup from one of the drink ladies...big mistake...instead of water i had gatorade endurance which i have never had before and dont plan on having anytime again soon. within about 2 min i felt sick, and then awful, and then like i wanted to puke hardcore...hr was fine and legs felt good but i just felt sick! ran the first half mile up the sweeping turn hill and then walked for 15 seconds and took off running again but still felt horrible. saw big jim running ahead of me which kept me going until i caught him and let an EEEAWWWW go right behind him to scare him a little haha. kept running the whole way in knowing that jim was somewhere behind me but still felt terrible! as soon as i finished the lady asked me for my timing chip but i said give me a sec please and puked into the garbage can about sick times lol and it was all the fckin yellow gatorade!! damn...
What would you do differently?:

not take gatorade endurance drink lol
Post race
Warm down:

puking into garbage can

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the run

Event comments:

happy with my results for my first tri
beat my goal of 1:15:00
but, didnt place and its frustrating to only be 1:30 out of 3rd when i know i can run!

great job donkeys!!! it was great to finally meet a large portion of the team!

nice job donkey fetus... I'm still a little peeved that I couldn't catch you, but I'm sure I'll get over it. I have the nice digital pics of you puking in the trash can after the race.... you dad is such a nice guy for capturing, in high digital quality, your post-race cooldown. Great tri!!!!

Puking during the run and getting it over with is a much better strategy.  Lightens the load and saves public discomfort.

Great first race on a very difficult course.  Great job, triathlete!

Hi Josh,

Great job on the race.  1:16 pace in the water is EXCELLENT !!

You sure the nasty lake wasn't the culprit (instead of the gatorade??)  I just have this picture of farm run-off that I can't shake...that and the visual of your finish line scene!!

Great job!
