Overall Rank = 118/512
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 25/63
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30 ate half a bagel and drank water. Stopped to get gas and abottle of gatorade. Ate a donut and diet dr. pepper. Left early since I had never been to this part of town and had no idea where I was going. I was one of the first people there so I got a end of the rack. Set up my transition meet a few people I knew from work and a bunch of BTers.
Event warmup:

Wanted to get into the water just to get a feel for it. Swam probably 50 meters and then listed to Jacks speach.
Swim
  • 14m 37s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decided to start right in the middle. First attempt ever on OWS went really bad in practice but I felt confident after practicing at Grapevine Lake with other BTers so I figured if I was going to do this do it right. Since it the water was shallow I felt more confident in the middle also. Then the gun went off I was not nervous at all. I waited for the people in front of me to get moving and away I went. The first 150 meters or so was pretty congested but managed to keep people away from my face. Pushed a few people but rubbing is racing. Got caught of in these crazy weeds but was not bothered too much. At the first bouy got a bunch of water in my mouth and everyone in front of me was treading water. I jumped between two people and kept going. In the long stretch I was able to open it up a little bit and started catching the wave in front of me. Rounded the second bouy easily and head for home. Took my time exiting the water since the boat ramp was slippery. Overall I felt great and could not be happier with my swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Maybe tried to swim a little faster but I knew it was a long race
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Put on rain gutr, helmet shoes and put gu in pocket and away I went.
What would you do differently?:

Practice and not fumble around so much
Bike
  • 44m 27s
  • 16.78 miles
  • 22.65 mile/hr
Comments:

First, I only measure the bike course as 16.2 miles (21.4mph) but I will take the "Official" time posted. Tried not to push too hard to save some for the run. During almost the entire bike kept changing position with some guy wearing a speedo and man bra and he should not have been wearing either (he was a pretty husky guy). For some reason I took my feet out of my shoes about a mile from transition, apparently I thought I was almost done. Hit a speed bump at about 25mph and almost lost it but other than that ride was uneventful and faster than I have ever ridden.
What would you do differently?:

Leave feet in shoes until end and not hit speed bump
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Happy with transition other than I took off my sun glass and did not realize it. Also part of my number came off on the bike from my race belt so I had to fix that.
What would you do differently?:

Secure race number better and remember glasses
Run
  • 24m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Finally got number fixed and tried to enjoy the run. Kept running into speedo man but luckily he finally outran me. Could have run a little faster but I did not want to burn myself out since this is just practice for my oly and possible HIM. Finished strong.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I wanted to enjoy the run
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with BTers and ate and drank.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat. It was very hot.

Event comments:

Jack runs a tight ship that is for sure.

Killer race, Ken!

Great job of handling and overcoming the weeds in the swim. Your splits were great in all 3 sports. Very well rounded race.

I'm glad you had a great time.

PS.  I told you you'd be out the water in less that 15 minutes!

Great race!  You should be well prepared for an olympic with your times.

I really think the OWS out in Grapevine helped us all tremendously.

Too bad you ran into speedo man!

Well, your OWS was a success! You did great and you were really fast in the water too!

Your bike average is fast too! And so was your run!

Yep, great race all the way around!

Yea, I agree... some people should not wear what they wear in races. I know, if you don't like it... don't look... but dang. I had one lady who passed me on the bike... and she was going fast with huge muscle thighs, but there was cellulite all down them. Which is fine, I got that too... but I also don't race in a bathing suit. I try to cover it up. It was NOT a pretty sight. I was very happy when she kept moving on.

OK, well you had a great race! You speed demon you!
