Sunny
Total Time = 1h 30m 17s
Overall Rank = 184/453
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 1/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30 so I could get to packet pick-up between 4-5. Ate two blueberry Nutrigrain Eggo waffles with PB&J. Washed it down with Heed and water. Parked and walked about 4 blocks to transition. Racked bike and setup.
Event warmup:

Did a quick little ride, a quick little run and some dryland bands for warmup. Chatted with some of the guys I was standing around with and suddenly it was 6:00 and we had to scoot out of transition. Ran over to see if I could find Dave from BT but no luck. Gelled 10 minutes before swim.
Swim
  • 07m 2s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

They sent people off every 5 seconds in numerical order. The first 200M or so I was just getting used to swimming with the masses. I decided to go wide and avoid the jam of humanity and ended up passing all those people. Gained more ground by staying in the water in the shallow parts.
What would you do differently?:

Mellow at the start.
Transition 1
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

I lolligagged a bit during transition. Couldn't quite pull it together and still managed to forget my gel and inhaler. I did have quite a long way to run from the swim and to bike out.
What would you do differently?:

Stick gel and inhaler in my helmet. Then I'll be forced to heal with it.
Bike
  • 46m 50s
  • 14.7 miles
  • 18.83 mile/hr
Comments:

I was thrilled with my bike. I was passed by all men, except one woman who I passed earlier and she came back and caught me with about a quarter mile left.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Just continue working on longer, harder rides.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

I'm okay with this transition. I could probably shave a few more seconds off if I didn't engage in the lively art of conversation. The run from bike in is kind of long and run out was about the same distance so that added to the time.
What would you do differently?:

Shut my trap.
Run
  • 33m 18s
  • 4.4 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

The really tree-covered parts made breathing a little tough but when the canopy opened up, so did I. The shade was really nice though! 4.4 mile run, which I didn't realize (duh) so when I saw the 3 mile marker, I picked it up. And kept going and going. It ended up being a negative split so there's the silver lining.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention to the course before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, stretching, walk back to transition.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I had a pretty damn good race!

Event comments:

This was a nice, very well organized race. There aren't lots of spectators (in fact none until the very end) but it's a great bike and run course. And honestly, the swim's not that bad either. I'll be there again next year!

Great job Jessica. Awesome run time and good transitions. Keep up the good work. Worry not, I thought the run was only 3.1 miles.
