Age Group Rank = 38/38
Pre-race routine:

Pumped up my tires, seperated my race stuff into 3 piles cycling, running, and nuitrions (sportlegs and a couple of bars)
Event warmup:

I stood with my feet in the water and I splashed around some.
Swim
  • 49m 16s
  • 1920 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

Well in the weeds I was worried my chip was going to come off a few times. First time I swam 1.2 miles in OWS. Also first time I swam by people. Kept bumping into people and really through me off where people who were mis sighting were trying to get me to change my course. Also got a breast stroke kick alot. I rarely kicked and that I think actually helped me when someone would grab my legs because it pushed me forward. I like my avg pace for the swim. It is about what I would do in the pool. I have not really swam that distance in awhile so I am glad. 20 mins out before the swim cut off also makes me feel good.
What would you do differently?:

practice sighting more. Other than that its more about practice and getting used to OWS and wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 11m 37s
Comments:

It took me awhile to change into my cycling gear. I was not in a huge rush and I did not think it took me that long either. I wanted about 8 mins in transistion. The changing skirk helped but it needs to be a veavier weight. I could not find one of my clothes which I left in the bag. It was kind of a pain getting the bike off the rack but not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Well if I can get used to cycling 56 miles in my tri shorts I will be alot better off. It would save me huge amount of time. I need a towel to dry off. Also make sure my stuff is laid out better and I had it all out.
Bike
  • 4h 10m 59s
  • 56 miles
  • 13.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Well This was the hardest part of me. It really was hard for me. I never bikes that far. I got like 16 miles in before I started see the lead guy and that made me feel pretty good. I was cool seeing the elites cycling by me. I walked up 4 miles. 2 of them was because I walked up 1 hill and I could not clip down on the way down so I just could not get speed to get up the next one. Almost say 1 elite get hit by a truck. He was actually excited by it. I had a guy chasing me and he almost caught up on the 3 hills but I was able to really take off and he then asked to be pulled. I am glad I didn't. Even at mile 10 I knew I was in trouble and it was going to be a long day.
Transition 2
  • 07m 14s
Comments:

Did not take me as long to change into the runniung shorts. I forgot my underwear that I was going to be on so I just put on the compression shorts on directly. I added more sportsshield because I was still chaffed some from saturday's run. I left my water bottle in transistion accidently
What would you do differently?:

Well I would hope to get used to wearing tri shorts on such a long run. Make sure I have my water bottle. I also wish I would put on more sun screen.
Run
  • 3h 24m 58s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 15m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

At mile 7 the truck pulled over and told me no more water spots for me. 2nd to last was about 20 mins ahead of me and they did get water. Lucky for me I was able to pickup a water bottle at the second stop. I was able to will it up in the camp ground. The course had no wind and was very hot. I felt naduea and had a headache. Heed tasted so bad at that point.
What would you do differently?:

make sure I remember my water bottle and maybe brought my hand one. Also an enegry bar would been really useful. I otherwise felt stroing out there.
Post race
Warm down:

noe reall. just backed up my transition and left.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Thje heat played a huge factor. Sports drink on the course is very bad. I should drank more and ate more through the course. Also my lack of more recent swimming and biking was big. Swim I did not feel was too abd but the bike needs alot more work.

Event comments:

I did not like how they did not have a finisher medal but a finisher sticker. I like how they had alot of water boittles on the course. I kept a few for myself. I also did not like how they pack up the water stations before I got there. They were pulling away as I got there. Would been better if they would have stopped and gave me some water and then kept going.

Wow! That was a long tough day for you. Way to hang in there and finish. I think I saw you coming over the I 90 bridge when I was walking my bike to the car. Too bad about the lack of water for you.

That is kind of crappy about the water, but great job out there.  It sounds like you put in all you had and you did it!  Congrats

Way to hang tough! That's what it's all about! It was a tough day out there. The run was definately hot and hilly. And no aid station at the start of the run didn't help. Good job!

I've been tetering on registering for an Oly distance near my birthday, and after reading your race report where someone my size (I'm around 280) did a HALF-IRONMAN, I have no more excuses. Much respect chirunner134... MUCH respect.
