Swim
Comments: Made sure I was at the front of the wave and saved myself swimming over others, until I met up with the wave in front of me. Great swim. Passed several waves ahead of mine. Came out on the heals (literally) of the first swimmer in my wave to finish. What would you do differently?: Not much to change here except keep swimming and get faster. Work on navigation skills. Transition 1
Comments: Had to run uphill after the swim to get to T1. Felt pretty tired after swim and decided to catch my breath so walked uphill into T1. Put my bike top on a wet body, took a little too much time. What would you do differently?: Build stamina to be able to run into and out of transition. Maybe try another clothing option or wear the bike/tri top during the swim race. Also take a gel and a big swig of water prior to heading out to bike. Bike
Comments: Too hilly for me at current level of training, but had a good time. What would you do differently?: Only got in 2 training rides prior to this and no time with hills only inclines. Do more biking and work hills and gear changes. If I do more races need to invest in a better bike, got an old, heavy, GT. Take in more energy/fuel on the bike ride as I was pretty wobbly going into the run. Transition 2
Comments: Alot of traffic coming in and going out of T2 couldn't run with bike for all the cross traffic. What would you do differently?: Get more organized. Run
Comments: Went into run with almost nothing left, didn't take in enough fuel on the bike so ended up walking more than I would have liked. The sun came out during the run and the humidty was incredible. Really didn't like the course or my performance. Don't think trail running is in my future. The uneveness aggrevated my shin splints and plantar fibromatosis. This was a poor perfomance for me. What would you do differently?: Make sure to get more fuel during bike. Do more back to back biking and running training to build leg stamina. Find tri's that run on a road not soggy trail. Post race
Warm down: Alot of walking trying to find my husband and then walking back to parking area a mile away. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training. Not enough fuel and definitely not enough sleep. Two late nights in a row. Won't do "Relay for Life" the night before this race again. Event comments: I know I rate the overall course "just right" after all that whining about hills on the bike and the run course, it was all within my ability, just had hoped I would've performed better on the run. Not much lite swimming to get used to the water. It was pretty warm.
