So for the HIM, I want to take either perpetuem or heed on the bike, but then just switch to whatever they have on the course for the run so I dont have to carry everything on the run. Do most of you do that? or do you just stick with say, gatorade, the whole time if thats what they provide? I'm just trying to figure out some nutrition strategy. I'll try it out on a long brick.

Definitely try it out. I just stick to GE the whole way, since that's what is provided on the course. That way I also don't have to worry about portioning, running out, or dealing with lava hot sports drink (since it's always ice cold from the aid stations).

There's the important part of your post.  You can use any strategy you want as long as it works for you, but need to test it out in your training.

Personally, I use the same things on the bike and run.

Yeah guess I just gota keep trying it. Im a non insulin diabetic I guess is the proper term, so hammer products have seemed to do me well, but on the courses around here its always gatorade. So i might just have to keep using gatorade and see if my body will handle it for that long

Glad to see you’re controlling your Blood sugar with Hammer products. I am a type 2 diabetic and love Hammer products to help my Blood sugar also.

What I find that works for me to get the proper calories during a race.  I will mix SE, gel, and a little water so it is about a thick as pancake batter.  I will carry it on the bike and on the run.  I will take a shot of the mix and then follow it up with water.  I use a gel flask holder on my number belt and keep them in my jersey.  Each flask holds about 500 calories each bottle.  If need I will use one bottle on the bike and on bottle on the run.  I also take Endurolytes.  I will also use heed for more calories and gel.

Maybe skip the Gatorade and go to water, hammergels and endurolytes on the run? That's what I did for my HIM, after perpetuem (and hammergels and endurolytes ) on the bike. Two or three gels should get you through the run...

I dont know how doable or crazy this may be but, because of the diabetes, you may be able to talk to the RD about having a couple of your own water bottles at the water stops so you can get your heed/perpetum in during the race.

Or just carry your hydration and fuel with a fuel belt.
